Swans seal De Guzman loan
Laudrup makes second swoop of the summer at Swansea

Swansea have signed attacking midfielder Jonathan de Guzman on a season-long loan from Villarreal to follow up the capture of Jose Manuel Flores from Genoa.

Earlier on Tuesday manager Michael Laudrup made defender Flores the first addition to his squad since succeeding Brendan Rodgers and he has now added former Holland Under-21 international De Guzman ahead of the Swans' second Premier League campaign.

Both players previously worked with Laudrup at Mallorca and De Guzman is looking forward to being re-acquainted with the Dane at the Liberty Stadium.

How do you know that?? Because there average age is a bit higher; it has nothing to do with anything. You can get a team of World Class players, who are under (as you put it) peak age and still not win anything. You could get a team of over 30's, with no internation experience and win the CL; Greece are a perfect example by winning the European Championship.

And Porto where a group of players the Mourinho assembled, it had nothing to do with reaching their peak because it could have all back fired if they hadn't of jelled together; and i think thats the main point your missing. Players have to compliment each other to gain success thats why I don't believe Ancelotti needs to spend big buck, he knows what he wants, he knows what a player in a certain position needs to do whether that player costs £1million of £30million.

Average Age= 27.6, Average Number of Caps= 10.7, Percentage of international players= 63%

Porto had a comparatively young side who were hungry to prove themselves and could still develop, whereas the majority of PSG's squad won't get any better. Name me a team of over 30s with no international experience who have even come close to winning the CL.

You do sometimes get freak results but even the Greek side who won Euro 2004 contained players with top level experience:

Vryzas had played for Perugia and Fiorentina.
Charisteas was at Werder Bremen.
Katsouranis was at AEK Athens and went on to Benfica.
Zagorakis had played in the Premier League under Martin O'Neill.
Stelios had spent a year in England's top division with Bolton.
Fyssas was at Benfica.
Dellas had been with Perugia and Roma.
Seitaridis was at Porto.

Even those who weren't playing in the top divisions were gaining CL experience with the likes of Panathinaikos, AEK Athens and Olympiacos.

Team chemistry does play a part but the bit that you're missing is QUALITY. Everton's team dynamic is probably one of the best that you will find anywhere but even if we were given wildcard entry into the Champion's League every year for the next 20 years we'd need to really fluke it to stand any chance of winning the thing.

Football isn't played with age and statistics; its played with 11 men who are required to beat another 11 men over 90 minutes, its that simple. They have a proven manager whose teams are normally of a mature age.

You argue that Portos team were young and hungry and wanted to prove themselves, so why can't PSG's team, with a proven manager win the CL with their current squad? And listing players, ages, caps etc is pointless, it doesn't prove anything

In 2011/12 they spent £93.3m compared to £7.9m the previous season. The top transfers were:

Pastore £36.9m
Motta £10.1m
Gameiro £9.6m
Menez £7m
Matuidi £7m
Sissoko £6.1m
Alex £4.4m
Sirigu £3.4m
Maxwell £3m
Bisevac £2.8m
Lugano £2.6m

Exactly. They made sudden wholesale changes and didn't win a thing last year! Not even a domestic cup.

Who else were they going to sign? They weren't in the Champions League so they had to get a certain type of player. Some of those signings were relative flops, too. Gameiro didn't fire at PSG like he did at Lorient.

Motta was only bought in January. Pastore needs another season IMO. Whereas Matuidi and Menez did pretty well. The difference between Montpellier and PSG last season was, seemingly, Giroud.

Hummels, Lahm, and Coentrao wouldn't go to PSG! Coentrao is at Real Madrid, Lahm is at Bayern and would be on a motza, whereas Hummels is the type of player that seems very comfortable in the Bundesliga.

You seem to be reading a lot of Wikipedia or playing a lot of FIFA12, but you don't seem to be recognising the emotional aspect of players. Do players want to go to Ligue 1? Do players want to play in a team where they aren't guaranteed a place in the first 11? No matter how much you pay players, some still just want to play at a high level in the first 11.

Yanga-Mbiwa, Nkoulou, Valbuena, Belhanda and Aubameyang are of no superior quality to the players PSG have already got on their roster.

PSG aren't good enough to get anywhere near winning the Champion's League. A lot of their players are 30 or over now, have very few caps if any and PSG is the biggest club that they've played for. Aside from a handful of players including Lavezzi and Pastore they're no better than a midtable Premier League side. The CL isn't won over 90 minutes. It's a campaign where you have to beat the best and richest clubs in Europe over two legs to even reach the final. Put Ancelotti in charge of Fulham or Villa and would he win the Champion's League? No. You need enough top quality players to do it.
