The league was a much more level playing field in those days. Every game was tough.
You didn't have the enormous gulf that you have today where the top sides are so far ahead of the rest.
The way money influences the game today, you may get the odd Leicester season but on the whole what we see is the pattern for the future.
What a side we had. What a side we don't have.
This
Great memories, remember thinking it would always be that way!
...and, sadly, This.

What a video that is. What a side that is. What a keeper Southall was, one of those saves from Viradi is ridiculous, like you just shouldn't be saving it when you watch how quick and low he has to get down.

Bloody hell I hope that one day I'll get to see good times like that and share with them with my lad.

Hear, hear. It’s a crying shame that a generation of Evertonians have never seen us win a trophy. The FA Cup might not be the competition it once was (various reasons), but I’d absolutely love us to win it again. Even the League Cup, a competition that, in my view, has been on its arse for years, would be boss. Ah well, there’s always next season, I guess.

Redman stop being boring.

quite appropriate given where we are today, but those were bygone days of true locals being involved with the team. Its a different game now. Sadly.

We oozed class back then. Boss team obviously but also a great ground, fantastic pitch when loads of other grounds were basically bogs, and a smart kit that looked sexy.

Look at us now with Angry Birds and Sportpesa on our shirts, the bad meffs.

This picture captures that teams spirit,Reid with a gashed leg, stuck the magic sponge down his sock and told the physio to f off the pitch,no rolling around,a determination to win,it was great going to any ground and not hoping to win but being actually convinced we would

I usually watch The Big Match Revisited on BT games from the 70's & 80's some of the tackling would get you a lifetime ban and a prison sentence today
what puzzles me teams from these eras had a squad of 12 players 1 substitute allowed in games considering how physical the game was back then no one ever seemed to get injured teams played practically a whole season & cup competitions with the same 11 players

The tempo was lower, and footballers were finished at 30 in those days
