Ten games in, a review

Steady start and promising signs. Might not happen this year though. The starts against Villa and Spurs were dreadful, I'm also a little concerned about our striking options on the bench.

Need to give Martinez time, quite confident he'll have us better placed in the long term.

The only thing bothering me is we've had a few games now where we've not started well at all. We've rode our luck at times and that won't be an option against the likes of Arsenal, Utd and even the Sh*te. But overall I'm really happy with RM- loads more positive and decisive than Moyes.

I think that's down to learning our new style. We're still learning, certainly havnt mastered it yet, and it will take time to learn how to adapt and deal with teams who try to counter act our tactics as spurs did yesterday.

Barca are obviously the masters at it, yet they have run into big problems with teams pressing them high. Arsenal who I consider the next best at playing that way often start games badly and under pressure (Liverpool) until they get a grip on the game and the opponents tactics.

Most importantly when these high pressing tactics are being used against you, most important is the 3 behind the striker taking advantage and punishing the opposistion. I think we're short on quality in those possistions currently. Barkley asside!

What about our weird crap half thing.
Could have been 3 down first half to Villa, Spurs and City. Norwich were the much better team first half as were West Ham Cardiff and west Brom.

In all those games we could well have been 2-3 down before HT and would have been in a far worse position.

Newcastle were stronger in the second half BTW

I'm not nit-picking it's just that we have looked awful for a fair amount of our playing time this season but only for 1 half of a game.

Can we not come out and play well like v Newcastle and maintain it?

Way I see it, either we get pressed, at which point we will make constant mistakes and have to stay lucky as they get the ball off our defense and run at our keeper, but constant high tempo pressing is tiring, and I think we take advantage and come better later on as they start leaving room for us and we still have decent energy levels....

Or..

The opposition don't play the pressing game because for some reason they havn't done their homework and we ride them like a horse till half time, at this point any manager with a little sense will suggest playing a high tempo pressing game against us and we return to the first suggestion.

That's my guess anyway.

With ten games gone I am very very impressed so far. 1 defeat in 10 is excellent and it was against a top notch on form Man City side.
The three draws at the beginning of the season can be excused as well, we were (still are) a new team learning a new way of playing (still are). We had no decent forward until West Ham.
Great 1-0 against Chelsea, we played well and defended well.
It was the 3-2 win at West Ham that excited me most. Being 2-1 down with not long to go and to win 3-2 was very very impressive!
The manner we won was excellent.
We thrashed Newcastle in the first half and played well against Hull and Aston Villa. Tottenham showed us they are a different class (for now) and played some really nice football up until the 18 yard box.
From the City and Spurs game, we aren't yet a top 4 team. Top 6 I would say and we have to play very well to be in that category.

The games against Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal will show us more how we compare. Got to get 3 points tomorrow against the premier leagues worst defence.

...better than expected and signs are promising. My litmus is 20 points at Xmas is safe, 25 points is very nice, 25+ is really good. I'm expecting a dip but if not we could be in a great position at the end of the year.

Bad patch if any could be December but once we are through to January we will have a better insight.

Still gutted about the league cup exit but that's another story
