Ten games in, a review

I think this season is wide open, as no team has really taken the season by the scruff of the neck. Ok Arsenal top the tree thus far, but history suggests they'll falter in the second half of the season, and few seem to rate them as genuine title hopefuls. Three points separate seven clubs so it really is all to play for.

I suppose the main caveat to our start is that we've only played three of the teams around us in the league thus far. Four points from those three games isn't a bad return, but we'll need to keep that up if we want to maintain our momentum.

The next few weeks could be huge. The derby game obviously goes without saying, and a win in that will give us real self belief, with the same true of the trip to Old Trafford. Getting a result in Moyes back yard would be huge, especially with a home game against Arsenal next up.

If we get through those games in a good position then the next half dozen games are all winnable and we could go back to Anfield in January in a really strong position.

All to play for.

Very pleasing so far. A steady start, just trying not to get excited yet as it could all crumble. Great possibilities this season though. Allez allez allez oh

My expectations/predictions at the start of the season was for us to have a total of 18 points (I was a big fan of RM). At the end of the season (via a game by game points assessment) I think we will have 71 points. Bad news is that I believe 74 points will be the minimum for CL entry.

Nice timing, Jock, needing doing this 'anniversary' thread.

Just to echo what Del said in the match thread regarding players Martinez inherited: I reckon he's had a good shufty at them now and maybe he's begining to show - at least some - signs of frustration at the limits to his 'inheritance', as it were (in particular his stated aim of having flexible players at his disposal that he can switch things around dramatically in-game formation-wise, rather than just rely on tactical substitute changes). I detect from his last few post match interviews after the defeat to City, the win against Villa and today's draw he's beginning to realise that certain players aren't going to be in it for the long haul with him and that he's going to have to make do and mend and think creatively to get whatever they do have to offer. I dont now who those players are, only he does, but I'd say that would be at the forefront of his mind now and that he'll act dramatically in the next two winndows...maybe with some surprise (to us) punts out of the club.
