I'm shocked to learn there were no games on TV until January that year.
Better yet, there were no live radio games in the opening weeks of that season either due to some dispute or other.

ciggie in mouth ,shirt undone who wants it ,
Looking back on that season, I am still baffled as to why we never wound up as champions.
We won at Anfield in Febrary or March to go about nine points clear and everyone, Kopites included, thought that was the end of it.
We never did much wrong after that.....but from memory they won their last ten matches in a row or something mad like that.
Even then, we were still looking like winners until one fateful April evening when we went to Oxford of all places and were beaten by a late Billy Hamilton goal.
And even at that........going into the last game we were a point behind them but they had a tough looking game at Chelsea and we were at home to Saints (I think)
We won 7-0 or something like that and at one stage Goodison erupted as a rumour swept the Old Lady that Chelsea had taken the lead.
But alas, it was Dalglish whom had scored at Chelsea and the rest is history.
The following week we faced them at Wembley and we battered them in the first half and lead through a Lineker goal.
At one stage Beglin and Grobbelaar were boxing right in front of where I was standing.
They were in disarray.....but the Gods intervened as usual and they turned the tables in the second half.
It was the worst trip home from an away match.....ever.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing mate.
It's a pleasure, Johnny.
There's nothing like taking a walk down Memory Lane with Everton.
BTW.....I do believe today is the anniversary of my favourite ever game.....Wimbledon Day.
I never had such a high from football as I had that day.
JD mate, get hold a book, "Fever Pitch", by Nick Hornby. It has nothing to do with Everton, but it chronicles his life as a Gooner during the 70s & 80s. Will give you a real feel for how it was to follow footie back then. It is also a very good read to boot.

i can put it down to one game and that was liverpool at home we went 3 goals behind then pulled 2 back lineker missed a couple of chances to level, so if he had we would have had 1 point more but they would have had 2 points less and we would have won the league (in a nut shell )
Just watched it (the shortened version on youtube). Dalglish score about 10 seconds in.
Funnily enough they replay that game over here from time to time and I watch it every time. I can't imagine what that day must have felt like in the ground.
Edit: It's really weird to watch that game with no Park End Stand re-built yet.
