If we do play with a severely weakened team (as many predict) it will be us on the back foot/countering for a change which mightn't be a bad thing.

Said it in the Palace thread, say it again now...always play your strongest team.

If you're not interested in progressing in the competition then play the full reserve side and save
everyone for the derby..no good going half measures, you end up with half a tired team on Saturday and out of a cup competition..pointless

We need to prioritise the cup competitions this season. We'll finish top half in the league no problem because when alls said and done it's pretty poor beyond the top 6/7 clubs and poor start or not those places we've slipped will be pegged back.

We need to win something again. We have little chance of a CL spot, so there's no excuse for Martinez to field an under strength side. It'll be 20 years without a trophy this season. That's a disgraceful record that finally needs putting right.

Play the ressies, those needing 90' coming back from injury and the kids in this comp - if you never give em a chance, you'll never see what they can do.

Derby on the weekend, so I don't want to see anyone critical to that game playing in this one.

A lot of discussion as to what degree we introduce the reserve players into this game. I am of the group that is sick of seeing us getting dumped out in the early rounds because we play a full second string team. We do need to rotate some of the non-regulars in so that they can gain match-sharpness but I don't see a reason to replace the entire team. After slating Robles last week before Wolfsburg and hearing about Howard's performance on Sunday, I wouldn't be opposed to either starting as long as whoever does play doers well. I'd expect Swansea to go all out tonight as they don't have Europe to distract them this year. I think Barry and McCarthy should both be rested for the derby for Besic and Gibbo. Put Mirallas and Atsu on the wings, with Garbutt/Oviedo (If he can start) and Hibbo behind them. Stones and Jags in the back and Eto'o up front and a lovely squeaky bum 2-1 win for the toffees.
