I'm going to take a leaf out of your book here:

They're a nationality not a race.

Race is a classification system used to categorize humans into large and distinct populations or groups by heritable phenotypic characteristics, geographic ancestry, physical appearance, and ethnicity. In the early twentieth century the term was often used, in its taxonomic sense, to denote genetically diverse human populations whose members possessed similar phenotypes.

In the U.S., the FBI identifies fugitives to categories they define as sex, physical features, occupation, nationality, and race.

They're a nationality not a race. The US FBI says so.

Yeah he was well going to come out and say "we're going to get into Europe" without knowing who'll bringing in in January!

And then the board don't allow anyone in, and we finish 8th. Yeah I can imagine how much "negativity" there would be then.

*shakes head*

What is it with you? Always one extreme to the other.

The journalist asked him if a top-half challenge could be mounted - that being 10th or above. We're not expecting him to say we'll win the African Nations...

The fact is, we've played 16 games. We're 11th, with a game to the good.

Even with that, fans are rightly disappointed. And our manager comes out and says sod aiming up, dismisses ambitions to finish in the top 10 and tells the media that he's doing fantastic to have a side apparently battling relegation, sit 11th.

He's under performing with the resources he has - our squad is widely considered to be better than the likes of Stoke, Norwich and West Brom - all of who are above us.

The question was something like;

"So David, the side must be buoyed by that good win at Swansea. Are you hoping Everton can use that result as a catalyst heading into the new year and find some form for a top 10 finish?"

Most managers would just go along with that. But Davey this season? oh no. "Well, we could get relegated and I'm not saying anything remotely positive because my team is s**t an they'll let me down"

Moyes, though, insists talk of top-half challenges can wait for now, with the club needing to double their tally and get to the 40-point mark before they can start setting loftier targets.

He said: "I can only look at our games and I am only looking to, first of all, get 40 points. Once I have got 40 points I will see what I can do after that.

"That has got to be the target for us just now and make sure we are not at the wrong end of the table."

"We have now got three away out of the next four games and that is tough. There is no point me saying this is the start and then finding we can't back it up."

I'm like Moyes. A CAUTIOUS OPTIMIST.

Not one extreme to the other at all.

He's just being cautious - saying avoiding relegation is the key task, although expecting to avoid it - i.e. optimistic.

To be fair to him, he also used that exact comment in the 04-05 season. It's not now nailed on that we won't finish in the top half or anything.

He says it all the time mate, no doubt aids the 'small Everton, overachieving with a manager who could do better' syndrome.

From Danny's post:

So basically says the Moyes thinks all his players are ****e and doesn't think that they can put a run together in the next few games?

I thought the job of a manager was to instill confidence? Not shoot it down when the players look like they could pick up some decent form?
