I agree with TB, move on. We have a host of players better than Carsley at the moment.

All injured though.

He'd be a short term answer. Probably playing a handful of games. He's capable of that and he wouldnt be tied down on a long contract.

We wont have a proper DM till the end of feb/early march. No one knows when Neville will be back and fit. Rodwell is out for 4 weeks. Heitinga is probably going to be a centre half for a bit longer.

Better, cheaper, options on a postcard please.

Sylvain Distin isn't going to be out forever and we'll probably sign someone like Senderos on loan in January anyway giving us another centre back. Lucas Neill can play there aswell.

If Moyes signed someone like Carsley my faith in him would be gone, I'd seriously question his position at the football club. It'd be a massive step backwards, even on a six month deal.

By all means, sign a defensive midfielder. But not Lee Carsley...

TB talks of Distin being back soon and Neill can play at CB add to that Yobo, no wonder with these at the centre of our defense we are leaking goals. Do not exactly inspire confidence. We must now have the crappiest central defence in the league or very nearly so.

If a fan doesn't rate the player this thread is about then he is entitled to his opinion, whether you like it or not. I don't see Lee Carsley being ripped to pieces in this thread, but not everyone is going to agree that he was the player people like you and Bill make him out to be.

Bellamy's got nothing to do with this thread, nor does he play in Carsley's position.

Staggering observation there TB I mentioned Bellamy as you seem to rate him so highly. my comparrison was there for all to see

Bellamy: full of self interest, never a team player, woman beater, over paid diva who will score an odd great goal, combs his air and then goes missing for weeks. Despite his countrymen begging him to return he just waves two fingers and woe betide any manager getting the wrong side of him, slams in a transfer request straight away............he is everything I detest about the modern player

Carsley: Played whereever he was told to, did everything for his team and team mates. constantly set an example to the young lads round him and never once came off that park never having given his all. He was a consumate professional with every club he has played in, if he had wanted to he could still at at our club in whatever capacity his manager presented him with. Rather than do that he chose to be nearer his sick child, raising money for handicapped kiddies in the Midlands and will no doubt devote the remainder of his working life to that cause.

I know which one I would want at my club, a team player or prima dona..............simple really isn't it

In case you hadn't noticed the majority disagree with you in this thread but that is something your used to so it doesn't surprise me

PS like you I am entitled to my opinion as well

not to mention played on bruised and bleeding, through the pain barrier, and when he went down ALWAYS got back up! A true model professional!

I do rate Craig Bellamy as a footballer, but that's got nothing to do with this thread. I didn't compare him to Lee Carsley in any way, you did. Your comparison was irrelevant.

I couldn't care less if the majority of people on GOT disagree with me, it really doesn't bother me. It certainly doesn't mean I'm wrong, as I've said, going ask other forums what they think of Lee Carsley. I'm a realist, I'm sure you'd get mixed replies.

I'm all for opinions, and I certainly won't accuse people who disagree with me of crucifying Lee Carsley.

From Gago to Carsley in less than a month, God bless Everton.

Come on now lid. Everton dont do "named" players unless they're crocked.

As for Carsley. Moyes did bring Tommy G back to fill the numbers. The thing being about this Carsley idea would be to boost the squad and he's gonna be okay sitting on the bench, he also wouldnt cost much.

Can think or worst ideas myself.

No doubting his skills on the ball TB. He wasn't the most blessed in that area. But if he was the only real outlet for our back four, then we had worse problems.

I'm not looking for my defensive midfielder to start the attack. If he does, great. But if he doesn't, I won't hold it against him. Once Arteta was in the middle of the park for us, it changed everything in terms of our ability to transition from defending to attacking.

Perhaps that covered up for some of Carsley's offensive failings. Fair enough. But the system worked with Carsley in it.

(Oh, and for the record I do not want to see him back with us. We've got plenty of people who can play in that DM space. Almost all of them are injured but that's besides the point.)

That's probably where our footballing philosophies differ Bill, which is fair enough, football is a game of opinions.

From my point of view, I'm not asking a defensive midfielder to be offensive and create goals for us. But I do want to see him moving for the two centre backs and looking for the ball. And alot of the time Lee Carsley, for me, didn't do that.

As the deepest lying midfielder I think it's a must, whether you defensive or more attacking minded.

And I don't think it comes down to ability, Phil Neville isn't a ball playing midfielder either, but he does alot more off the ball (when we have possession) than Carsley ever did. He drops into deeper positions and makes himself available.

Fair enough, Carsley didn't have that in his locker, which is why he was probably reluctant to do it. But that's exactly why I was happy we parted ways, I wanted to see us move onto that next chapter and develop as a team.

Completely disagree that his positional skills weren't up to much. I used to watch him & when we had the ball, as soon as a full back got forward he'd just gradually move over to the left or right & then if we lost the ball, we'd have a back 4 instead of a gaping hole down 1 of the flanks which 1 of the centre backs would have to try to cover. He did that so many times it was untrue & was always there to win the ball, intercept or just keep a winger from doing anything while the team got the shape back. It made a huge difference & as a result our defence was a lot more solid while he was protecting it.

It's easy to miss stuff like that because there was very rarely any 50 yard sprints with a lunging tackle to stop someone getting a cross in but so many times he'd have stopped the player from getting the ball in a dangerous position in the 1st place. He might not have offered much going forward but that wasn't his job, that was left for the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill & the forwards.
