Who's insulted him?

Alot of fans didn't rate him whilst he was here, I don't see the problem to be honest.

Wrong.

He was rated by most fans, and most on this forum as well. Don't give me the old Halewood Blue "well the people I know didn't rate him" garbage either.

He was very good at the job he had and never once mailed it in. Mind no one was comparing him to Essien or Alonso but he was perfect for us at the time.

We tried it with Graveson and it didn't work out.
Once you leave a club and move on, sometimes it's best to not look back.
I thought it was a big loss when he left, but he obviously didn't figure in Moyes plans at the time, or vice versa, and our team have new faces now, that hopefully can do the job.
Good luck to the guy.

It's not wrong at all to be honest. Maybe on the ultra positive forum that is 'Grandoldteam', yes, but alot of fans didn't rate him at all.

He did do his job well, but his job was so limited and it limited our style of play. You'll get nowhere if you've got a centre midfielder who's simply there to defend and rarely looks for the ball or gets involved in possession.

It's simply not the way forward, and certain fans saw this.

I don't need to.

Register to one of the other forums, Bluekipper, NSNO or SOS etc and ask there opinion of Lee Carsley. I'm sure you'll get mixed replies.

Most of the EFC forums I go on admired the job he did for us including this place. This original thread I think was done as a tongue in cheek thing, what I object to is a valued former player being denegrated by supporters who know next to nothing about the guy or what he stands for. Mind you given the choice between Carsley and Bellamy.....................I'll take the man every time, you can have Bellamy

If a fan doesn't rate the player this thread is about then he is entitled to his opinion, whether you like it or not. I don't see Lee Carsley being ripped to pieces in this thread, but not everyone is going to agree that he was the player people like you and Bill make him out to be.

Bellamy's got nothing to do with this thread, nor does he play in Carsley's position.

He was much better than adequate. End of.

Now again, if you want to compare him to the Essiens and Alonsos of the world, be my guest. I don't believe he limited us at all and for the money, was a very good option at that position for us.

In other words, one area I never worried about regardless of the opposition was our defense in the middle of the park when Carsley was in the lineup. That's his first priority. He didn't make 40 yard passes like Heitinga does, that was never his game. But he was very good at breaking up opposition attacks and then getting the ball to the players who could initiate our attacks, namely Arteta, Osman, etc...

I love the guy and he never had a bad game against teams below us in the table. Unfortunately there aren't that many teams below us in the table.

All I can do in this situation is advise you to download one of our old games where Lee Carsley is playing and watch his movement off the ball, when we had possession.

No ones asking for 40 yard passes, but I do expect my defensive midfielder to look for the ball and make himself available. Carsley very rarely did this and with him being our deepest lying midfielder, this caused alot of hoofball.

Fair enough, it probably wasn't his game, but that's why we needed to move on. In the modern game a defensive midfielder isn't just there to be a 5th defender, he's got to do alot more. And both Phil Neville and Mikel Arteta proved this last season, our football improved alot and we kept more clean sheets than we did during the previous season, with Lee Carsley involved.

We're proper crocked with injuries though.

They havent given any timescale to Neville. Heitinga is playing in defence for the time being. Rodwell is out for a month. Fellaini aint a DM in the prem (as the Brum goal showed on the weekend).

Got no one there to play that position.

Cars wouldnt be a bad player to bring in to be used when we've not other choice.

He would be an awful signing, he's way passed his best and as you can see, even at his best, I wasn't a massive fan.

He's looking for first team football, he won't get that here. And I'm guessing he's also looking to stay in the Midlands because of his disabled son, a big reason why he left Merseyside.

He'll either stay at Birmingham or go to a Championship club, someone like Derby.
