Summer transfer window.

Paulhina to but he went to Spurs.

I guess the question I was asking overall, is it better to sign young players who play less then 15% o&our games or older players who will play - if we want to keep this manager

Theoretically, you say young players but what’s the point if you have a heap of them that can’t get near the team or played 15% of games during a European push.

Open question really!
It's really really simple and the equation hasn't changed in 20 odd years.

If you want Moyes as your manager you sign experienced ready made players.

If you want to sign young players and develop a team over time you don't retain Moyes as your manager.

It's entirely up to TFG.

You are continually trying to differentiate between the manager and a transfer committee.

I'm saying they're the same thing.

If the recruitment had been good, this debate doesnt occur and people are just praising Moyes' recruitment.

If the manager is the transfer committee then our model is totally wrong. Either the manager goes or the recruitment team go, there is absolutely no point in the recruitment setup the way it is currently.

I would like to think this would be sorted well in advance of the transfer window opening but it appears that’s far too much to ask of this football club. I look forward to us beginning our search to identify players on the 1st July.

Santiago Castro
Troy Parrott
Liam Delap
I was impressed with Castro in the matches we played Bologna in Europa league. Think he would be a good signing for y'all (and would've been one I had hoped for in the summer had we not re-signed Tammy in January)
McGinn is actually an excellent player, but turns 32 at the start of next season, so we should not be anywhere near him. Wilson's knees are jelly. And Soucek is a sorry excuse for a footballer. He pops up with important goals but he cannot even move.

Moyes banging on in that press conference about how you need players like him is terrifying to me. He already has a squad of huge players. Why on earth would he need more? He shoehorns JOB at RB constantly to get an extra tall player on the pitch. Has supposedly declined many FB options that have been put to him for lacking PL experience and height 🙈

Where does it end?
I don't really see how a potential McGinn transfer makes sense for anyone? Why would we (Villa) want to sell our captain, why would McGinn want to move from Villa to Everton (when he's been at Villa for almost a decade and is close to legend status), and why would Everton want to drop 30m+ on a 32 y/o?
N Jackson is most likely wanted by Villa. Emery has managed him and chased him over 3 windows. Plus they will have CL money.
I'm not sure where he'd fit at Villa if we don't sell Watkins. The only 'big money' striker signing I could see us making if he is available is Rashford.

Clear trend in the signings we made last season with the majority being young promising players, and the exceptions being KDH and Grealish who were opportunities that came up for experienced senior pro's.

If we're going to fold on that idea and just let Moyes completely dictate who we sign you have to question what the point was of us of us poaching Nick Cox for example, who's reputation at Utd was built on developing prospects at Carrington. Moyes has spoken about the academy needing to be better and wanting more local boys coming through, but if this season is anything to go by it's hard to see how that happens under Moyes unless we have another Rooney spawn in out if nowhere.

The treatment of Aznou, Dibling, Röhl, Alcaraz, and more recently George has been a constant source of discussion this season. I think it's hard to look past because it's clear that everything that's been put in place at the club has been done so with a different identity in mind to what Moyes is creating.

We're coming off the back of the absolute chaos behind the scenes that was the Moshiri years, the most important thing to me after that was just to see joined up thinking. Regardless of style of play or the age of players targeted or anything like that, I really just want to see people who are willing to work towards the overall vision of the club without the constant power struggles and baffling decisions that resulted during the Moshiri era.

That has always been my biggest issue with Moyes. In some ways it can be a strength as a coach, but his unwillingness to compromise and work in parameters not totally dictated by him risks derailing this rebuild. There was a Boyland article a few months ago that was clear about how we internally viewed ourselves and who we wanted to be, and it was to emulate the kind of model of a Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton - but with a higher budget and ability to hang on to the players that we develop. The one thing that all of those clubs have in common is that they don't give the manager more power than they should have under any circumstances. This is why De Zerbi walked from Brighton.
