I liked that post because of it's humor.

I actually disagree with it however. Having two ball playing CBs allow you to either draw the opposition on to you without needing to hoof or force them to not to press. It's tactically a great asset.

Although yes sometimes it looks foolish.

Scott Dann is good enough with the ball to do this. van Dijk is very flair. Denayer is a cheaper and similar option who Man City don't seem to want so why would van Dijk be a success in this league? (don't thread ban me I'm not suggesting we get him).

Have to agree with you there, the thing is Juve play 3 at the back, so starts most games. Can't see Roberto changing the formation of defenders to accommodate anyone we bring in. Might be wrong though just can't see it.
They don't. He's mostly on the bench although when he plays it's normally in a 3. I remember the commentator saying it in the CL final.

How reliable are they ?
Actually, I think I know the answer

The professional cynic in me says that everyone remembers the ones they get right, but forget about the ones they get wrong.
If they're right more than 40% of the time then I'd say they're either sourced in some way or are careful about what they guess at.

Anyway, I'd be happy with Dann. We've not had anyone consistently decent at getting his head to the ball at set pieces since Cahill was playing regularly.

Not saying they're sourced to their eyeballs like, but they've definitely called a couple of deals, pretty sure they used to get snippets of team news earlier than everyone else too. They don't go round posting tons of jarg anyway, they rarely post info but when they do it seems decent.

if you'se are on about everton aren't we, they usually don't say a thing is 'done' unless theyre absolutely certain like, so they don't get abuse.

No.

But they are very Danny Wilson, James McFadden, Mark Burchill and David Goodwillie.

I'm struggling to see your point

A good player is a good player regardless of where they come from

Unlike you, I have watched a lot of Van Dijk during the past two seasons and I have seen plenty to suggest that he's good overall and not just "good for the SPFL"

What is required with him is for someone to take a chance

If we don't take the chance, someone else will and we'll be kicking ourselves

Nailed. On

Anyway, that's enough of this thread for today

In a bittles

Sums up silly season this. People fuming cos' we might sign Dann - a proven and consistent Prem defender who would slot into the squad, but then delighted when we're linked to Ogbonna. Someone who was good on FIFA two years ago and has been torrid since he went to Juve, like genuinely turd, and has no Prem experience.

It really depends on what you believe in. Just like some people think Del Boy can be a Spanish Cadamarteri.

It's nothing wrong not to rate Scott Dann especially for the quoted price.

btw i'd rather have dann than ogbonna, ogbonna can be all over the place at times, and i think dann is a better choice for us, already proven, alright on the ball and tough as nails.

People keep saying about this ball playing defender, we don't need that we've got one in stones you don't play two of them in the same team, you just need someone better than distin on the ball, but a better defender than alcaraz, dann is both of that.

People get attracted to names more than talent though.

No there's nothing wrong with not rating Dann, everybody can have an opinion. But it seems to me that it's the classic 'exotic' player been automatically better.

Scott Dann; good defender, proved himself as capable in the Premier League and a tall mountain in the prime of his career. But he's not good enough for a team that believe we should be challenging in the top 7 or 8.

Everyone keeps hammering on about us not showing ambition in the transfer market, but then they're willing to settle for Crystal Palace's POTY. I think he's good, but i'd much rather we spent the 10m on a defender that will improve the starting XI.

And POTY means nothing at a club, Heitinga was ours one year, the following year he was awful!
