The problem with that is, he's on £175k per week at City, he's got a year left on his contract, so he won't be taking a big wage drop to come here. He would just stay at City and get paid for not playing.

Equally, even if City release him for free, I'd be hugely surprised if we agreed to pay his full salary - City would probably supplement it for the remainder of the year. For whatever reason (probably linked to him being a scumbag), they want him gone and I'd bet they'd be prepared to subsidise it happening (which should probably be a red flag for us, but hey ho)
