Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The problem with that is, he's on £175k per week at City, he's got a year left on his contract, so he won't be taking a big wage drop to come here. He would just stay at City and get paid for not playing.
Nah, if he genuinely wants to play at the World Cup, he'll have to play this coming season

Equally, even if City release him for free, I'd be hugely surprised if we agreed to pay his full salary - City would probably supplement it for the remainder of the year. For whatever reason (probably linked to him being a scumbag), they want him gone and I'd bet they'd be prepared to subsidise it happening (which should probably be a red flag for us, but hey ho)

Bit weird to have both Coleman and Walker around the same age for right-back.

I guess Walker also sometimes plays CB in a 3.
Walker would be able to play the conventional full back in a 4231 but also drop in as the right sided CB in that 343 we sometimes became at times last season. He might not be as quick as he was 2 years ago, but he's still quick (recorded the 6th fastest sprint of any defender in the league last season) - devil's advocate says that might allow us to play a slightly higher line and press more aggressively.

The pessimist in me though says that I don't necessarily think it's his sprint speed which is the issue, it's his reaction time - that goal which England conceded against Senegal the other week being a good example of what I'm talking about and to me that's actually a potentially bigger problem than just his ground speed.

I remember Barry getting ripped a new one for England (Germany ?) as he got older - then we still managed to get a good year or two out of him after that.

I get the reservations - but also England can be a bit of a circus.

Barry was 29 when that happened but that was because Barry had never had any pace, he was just exposed in that moment rather than him being on a huge downward trajectory. He played over 100 games for City after that, winning the PL and FA Cup.

I'm not the most vocal anti-Walker poster here, but I don't think comparing the two would be fair

If youre thinking strategically;

1: Stopgap for 12months to give time sourcing a young long term RB

2: Senior player to enable us to sell Patterson and sign an u21 for Walker/Coleman to mentor at RB

3: Moyes thinks he can get every drop of ability out of him for one last season.

4: Theres not much money to spend so we need to go after free players like Walker & Tagliafico so we can spend in the forward areas

What players sometimes do, is they make a deal with their existing club, so lets say hes on £175k a week (£9.1m a year) Man City may pay him £5m to leave, over half his wages, and then he is free to negotiate a new deal with Everton.

Man Utd did this with Wayne Rooney when he came back to us, they paid him £10m to go, because he had 2 years left on his contract and was on £15m a year, so the technically saved £20m

Really solid evaluation. I’m happy for experienced pros who have played at a high level to come in, but does have to be balanced with high potential youth.

Think every one is expecting massive money to be spent this summer, and although I have no doubts we will spend more than we have of recent, not hard lol, I don’t think it will be 150-200m like some fan channels suggest.

Think we’re still fairly restricted by PSR.

Realistically, the most City would pay him is probably £50k per week, which has would mean we have to make a 36 year old speedster, who is no longer that quick our highest earner. That would truly be madness.
