Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Exactly, but every window it seems that there’s a selection of players linked by the media that we never end up actually getting and people on here go mad about it.

We never did get Lingard
We didn’t get Phillips
We never went for Che Adams
Or Rodriguez from Burnley
Or Charlie Taylor
Or Shane Long

already this summer we’ve had links to Cresswell and Antonio, the only shock is we haven’t been linked to James Ward Prowse again although I’m sure that will pop up at some point.

We hardly ever actually buy these players.

I think Barry’s loan fee at the time was 5 mill which 10 years ago wasn’t inconsiderate but he was a good player in a position we needed. Fans should judge players for what they do in blue before complaining about them before they’ve even kicked a ball for us.
Think there's a distinction to be made about players who are late 20s/early 30s who are good and those who are crap.

Lingard and Phillips were decent players at one time, but the others you've listed (with the arguable exception of Long) were never good enough to play here in their primes, never mind when they were past it.

Largely (and perhaps I'm crediting people with more sense than they deserve), I think everyone will be ok with signing older players as long as they're actually good older players that make financial sense.

Sometimes I guess it is just newsworthy names - other times its agents trying to gaslight a manager / fans into thinking it is a good idea ?

The question is would you prefer Ndaiye or grelish, because (and it seems people forget this) they both are occupying the same position - LF/LM

I’m sure they COULD play other positions, but they’re both most effective in the same spot, which seems like a waste of limited resources given how we really need first team players in RF/RM, RB & possibly also LB
It's a fair point and I personally wouldn't sign him because he is likely to cost quite a lot. But I was making the general point that he was still a much better player than McNeil, Harrison and Lindstrom.

Do we need two on the left. Yes we do. McNeil and Ndiaye make it less of a priority position but I disagree with any suggestion that he would not improve us overall.

If we get to the tail end of the transfer window (which we no doubt will) and he is available and he does not block a rebuild then I can see the sense.

He's not coming anyway. Sad truth is that given the last few years unless we literally break the bank he'll have other options, which he can justify as not being a step down.

As mentioned before I'm sure I read after the friendly against Motherwell the Staff where left impressed so likely to move to Rangers now
With the money that has been said even with the position the club have been in could have made a move for him.
Tbh. I'd be surprised if we weren't in for him. Moyes loves him and loves signing players he has worked with before. If Calvert-Lewin leaves, we will need 2 strikers - one who will presumably be 3rd choice. Plus, we have to be careful with our budget.

I wouldn't like it, but can definitely see it.
Massive difference after his injury now and the time been out for, coufal i could see but would just be stupid with his injury to go in for him. Before the injury i could understand
Regarding the Barry links, the problem for us is that with our budget, we really need to be finding these players before they're worth €40m.

If we need 8-10 players then we absolutely need to do that but at the same time it's obvious we cannot fill the squad with 10 £10m players and expect them all to be roaring successes. That would sound like another relegation battle ahead and something Burnley would try to do.

Certainly I think we'll have to sign 3 or 4 players of that price range or a little higher, sign perhaps 2 more expensive players and pad out the squad with loans and frees.

I don't envy them their task. That's a very difficult job they've got on.

It really is both fascinating and very difficult to see how they'll try to maximise the use of the available cash whilst getting the balance right between quality and quantity.
Agree but cant really take that chance now i see it as the onana deal should have got him before but csn still be a move before you sell for a big fee

Seeing Jeremy Doku against Wales last night was so revealing. He was literally unplayable, attacking the defenders and running at speed all game long, something you rarely see him do at city these days. Something Grealish also ‘used to do’ before getting conditioned in the Pep style.

Makes me wonder if McAtee would thrive in a club like ours or has he been too conditioned in the ‘city way’? I worry watching Foden for England.. can’t seem to adapt to different styles of play. Would McAtee be the same?

Everton in the chase for Vanat as clause revealed
Moyes is set to be backed by the Friedkin Group in the market, and the Toffees could add Vanat to their roster, but will face competition from Premier League rivals.

A report from TaToTake (9 June) claims that the Blues are interested in the 23-year-old alongside the likes of Fulham, Leeds and Sunderland, who are the favourites, for his signature [Mackem News].

Vladyslav Vanat has emerged as a target for Everton this summer.

David Moyes is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements in the transfer window after his side finished with the fourth-lowest goals tally in the Premier League.

McAtee was at Sheffield on loan for most of his senior career. We ought to be evaluating him from that time more than his limited action with City to see if and how he fits.

TaToTake sound legit.
