Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

If we sign Richarlison then nothing has changed and we'll never achieve anything. With PSR we cannot afford to buy players who will have no resale value, and especially players whose output will diminish year on year. That strategy is what has gotten us in to the mess we have been in. People have a full time job to identify players for Everton to sign, if Richarlison's name is on a list handed in then you'd have to question what they've been doing with their time.

Devils advocate - should we not have signed Tarkowski......

Ok Kevin Campbell, 3 mill back in 1999 at 29.

They didn't have PSR 26 years ago. It's led by PSR now, if a club makes large revenues they can afford big outlays, lose the player eventually for next to nothing and then use their revenue to buy again. Actually some clubs even struggling with this. But Everton aren't in that position, resources are limited.

Loan?

The mulling is always the best for me. Someone, somewhere inside the walls and hallways of Goodison, sitting in a creaky chair, rubbing their beard and mulling over something only they know what they are mulling over.

This sounds like a Rico mull and that's some heavy duty mulling

It really would be terribly deflating. I like Richy, but who amongst us doesn't?

You can argue that all TFG have to do is show the money, but I hope that Watts and Kinnear also put some boundaries down as to where the money could and couldn't go. It would be the wrong signing for all the reasons you've given.

It's time for us to find new heroes and new stars, and throw off the past. If that isn't the point of all this, then you'd have to ask what is.

How businesses made money and reinvested it was exactly the same then mate, PSR, or no. If he would have been a bad investment now, he was a bad investment then- PSR or no.

Im aware of PSR mate and i wouldn't be totally onboard with how you suggest we manage it or how you suggest its generally managed.

So we sign young players, they improve, then we sell them, what for and what was the point of it?

There has to be a goal to it, a sporting objective or else what's the point.

Besides its moving to squad cost model anyway, so its a bit moot.

Possibly I guess. Last time round Moyes tended to use the loan market to get players with a view to buy. Perhaps he's changed over the years, and the loan market is certainly different nowadays. It now seems to be dominated by players who have failed at other clubs and are possibly on too high wages for anyone to buy them. There must still be loans available for players on the up surely.

I don't know but recruitment since the 80s for Everton has been shocking. If we keep filling the team with mediocrity then we'll never do anything.

Free transfer is never free. Player gets a big signing-on bonus & usually higher wages than otherwise. Granted, it's not as much as it would cost straight out buying the player but it can still amount to quite a lot.
