Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Mate, I wouldn't get your hopes up on Bournemouth-esque football anytime soon. Just isn't Moyes and he won't take the handle off, either. He'll really value our defensive structure first and foremost. Sacrificing that just so we get to watch entertaining wingers? Nope, not for me.

Of course, we definitely need to improve in the transitions, but as we saw last season with Ndiaye the entertainment can and will come. Someone on the right would change the game dramatically imo. A lot of our fans see that, though.

Moyea is a defensive manager so he'll always come from a place of a solid defence but he loves overlapping fullbacks and overloading the opposition box.

We played some fantastic football under moyes in his first spell here. But my point waswe dont need to be a European power house to get the players to play more atracking

Agreed. My point in general is that there's very fine lines in the data that need to be taken into account. If we suddenly told our wingers to attack, where would that take us defensively? A lot of our fans don't realise just how lucky we had it with Pienaar, for example. He had the ability to dazzle but he definitely understood Moyes' system first and foremost. He definitely wasn't a winger that just kept attacking, if you get me?

Wowzer.

Other than Pickford, I think McNeil may be the player I am least concerned with us finding a replacement for. His set pieces alone are a massive boost when he's in the team, and he scores the odd blammo out of nowhere, and all.

On topic, I was hoping we'd have had a sniff of some hot Bosman action by this stage. All a bit uninspiring, but I have confidence in the New, Improved, Sneaky Blues dropping a couple of bombshells out of nowhere in the coming weeks.

Even with gardening leave, James Smith will probably already have had input here already. He can't rock up at Finch Farm and can't use official channels of communication, but outside of that, how do you enforce it.

It would be a bit pointless this summer if he could only have involvement later. These weeks are the critical time, when the decisions are being finalised now about targets and approaches. Given his background, you would assume him to be very much a Moyes man anyway, and in tune with his thinking.

I like this flatter committee structure in theory and don't think the DoF model works in general, and for us it hasn't been great at all. Having more people with input but within a small group will hopefully avoid the scenario of the DoF making signings on one tangent and the manager on another. It should be more likely that concerns and red flags about a player are also flagged and discussed.

As with everything though, we'll have to see.

The only thing really would be being precluded from going for the same targets as City as would be fairly obvious, but I doubt City would be sweating about that. 😂

Interesting though we seem to have gone for a couple of youth targets of theirs in recent weeks.
