Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Our PSR essentially resets after the 30th June so don’t expect anything (major) before then
An awful lot of people still seem to struggle with this simple piece of information. We’re apparently PSR compliant, but little room for error. “But we were going to spend 30 million on Delap” the more likely answer to that, is that if he’d agreed to join us, the deal would have been in place and pushed through from July 1st.

That doesn’t mean the groundwork isn’t currently being done on signings either btw, of course it is. But confirmations won’t be forthcoming until July.

We dont pay Grealish's wages directly. A fee is paid to City for the loan. They pay his wages.
They pay him almost 15 million pounds a season in wages, so it would be a massive fee for a player on a rapid downwards trajectory who turns 30 at the start of the new season. Like Rashford and Sancho for United, I think he's stuck at City because nobody else comes close to matching his wages.

Been linked a fair bit the last few weeks. Think he had an injury when he joined them(?) then couldnt get in their team.

The only players id like from them are:
Baleba
Hinshelwood
Minteh
Verbruggen

Not really sure about this guy though.
O'Riley is a really talented player - lovely eye for a clever pass in the final third, but the perception from Brighton fans is that he's not quick enough and TBF they've seen far more of him this season than I have.

I saw the stuff he said about wanting to play as a number 8 rather than a 10 or out wide which would suit us, but think there's a question mark about whether he's up to the speed/physicality of this division

If you look at his numbers for Celtic the season before last, they're off the charts, he was clearly the best player in the league by a mile, but again that doesn't necessarily translate to being successful in the PL.

Coufal has been linked again today, he was interviewed on international duty about his future and he said his priority is to stay in England, which has fuelled the rumours he will be coming to us because of the links to Moyes. With Ashley Young going I dont think he would be a bad option, I still think Jake O'Brien will be first choice in that position, but we need a back up.

There is an article on line about him not being happy in his position on the team, it does mention Everton, so maybe....
“I am best at the number eight position, where I can go box to box. I have only played two games there, otherwise, I have been used as a winger, false number 9, or somewhere else.” - https://thecelticstar.com/matt-oriley-admits-unhappiness-at-brighton-role-amid-transfer-interest/

He scored 18 league goals from midfield his last season for Celtic. Made his Brighton debut the day after he signed for them, was at the end of a nasty tackle after 9 minutes and needed ankle surgery. Tough to establish yourself and find your place in the team with such a start.

We've had £30mil available since the Delap bid. It's a bit odd that we wouldnt just immediately shift attention to McAtee as soon as we were turned down by Delap.

He and McAtee are apparently close friends so it also seems a bit odd to me that we didnt go for both at the same time.

If we could get McAtee super (I've not really paid much attention to him other than @bluestevon praising him many times) and Grealish as well...wow.

They would also bring the winning mentality (aside from this season) Guardiola instills in his sides.

Nico o'Reilly although an ACM may not get a look in there, nor at LB. Could he be another option? Rico Lewis is one who i wonder why he doesnt seem to get much praise but he seems to be Guardiolas pet.

Those 3 + Grealish on loan would be a massive gamechanger, however unlikely. The city players seem to be lab grown.

zat give it a rest

What I said didn’t imply anything else. Just not to expect anything major before we get that extra wiggle room.

If that means I’m ‘struggling’ to wrap my head around the situation, sound

Going ultimate Muppet mode what I'd do is take Coufal on a one year deal as a back up. I'd loan out Patterson to see if he can get a full season of football behind him, and let Coleman go into the backroom staff (don't give a player contract). I'd then sign a proper RB to start. Leaves us in a good place for this season + moving forward.

That would be grim and not the outcome we were hoping for.

Sure O'Brien has done fantastically well but he's not a FB and as a consequence this limits our options offensively.

This is exacerbated by Mykolenko on the other flank

Think he wants a London team as his kid is in one of the youth setups down there.
