Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Agreed mate, i think we've a lot to decide, do we want a playmaking no 10, or an alethic hybrid one like Soucek, do we actually want wingers or inside forwards, Illy for example isnt a winger in my opinion hes an inside forward, so if yu have a tricky inside forward on the left what do yu want on the right, pace.....trickery, someone who can hold the ball up the pitch. Then how full backs compliment that is key, do you want your width to come full backs and allow your wide players to come inside, do you want one attacking and your second more defensive or do you want your full back to just defend.

The hypothesis has to be how do you get an additional 20+ goals into this team. That's our aim.

Its the blend and complimenting of all the possibilities above also depending on what you decide.

I guess its also if you bring new players in what happens to others, so if you play Illy, buy a right winger and a new 10 - what happens to McNeill and Charley, if you bring in a new left full what happens to Myko. Centre midfielder, what happens to Garner etc.

A lot of decision's to be made for me, but there needs to be a plan for how its all going to compliment, balance and form a squad.
Moyes has rarely gone for playmakers as number 10s. Usually someone who puts in a shift defensively as well as being a 2nd striker - ideally good in the air and can arrive in the box late. See Cahill, Fellaini, Soucek etc

Other than Soucek, the only one who vaguely fits this description I've seen us linked with at all is the young lad Woltemade at Stuttgart, but would imagine he'll be out of our price range

Be my thinking to mate, i cant see him playing the likes of a Charly there, which is why we may see the hesitancy on him - the question on Moyes mind might be can Charley be a Cahill and if not where do i play him - deeper maybe. We had Arteta and Moyes played him wide or deeper at 8 as opposed to playing him further up.

The downside of so many players leaving is that it means even more players have to be signed thus diluting the funds we have for the summer.
We need at least twenty outfield players and realistically maybe half a dozen of those will get limited game time. Players like Young and Doucoure could be these squad players unfortunately we can't afford to pay top wages to players like these.

Been saying something similar mate, think is a piece everyone is missing on the departures.

The loan market will be used extensively, and while I get there are associated costs with loans they are miles away from transfer fees. Decent players can be picked up on loan to fill gaps, like we have done previously.

I dont want any more Harrisons or Lindstrom's mate, we need to move on.

I'm tired of making do and stop gapping.

Loans and freebies need to cover 75% of what we’ve lost/will be losing…

… but the loans need to be far better than last years poor offering, and the freebies need to be better than the players we let out the door… and on lower wages.

….outwith all the discussion about Alcaraz playing out wide or no10, I don’t see him getting into goalscoring positions much. Obviously did so at Palace but not seeing a lot of goalscoring threat from him. Runs well in possession and generally picks a decent pass to put the likes of Beto in, seems to be his strength.

Which is fine mate, but when you go to the market with the criteria its almost impossible, its why you come home with Lindstroms and Harrisons.

We need to raise all boats, we need to invest, in players who improve us and who will stay fit - minimum.

Our standards simply have to raise in squad building, we need to change our own mindset.

Does he remind you of Arteta on his first loan mate, i think that might be the only pathway for him under Moyes.

I think hes brilliant transitioning the play which is why i want to keep him, we've been poor at that for to long.

Keep thinking about Moyes’ presser comments from a few games back re looking at players; ‘some closer than you think’… obvs in part a joke about Salah at the time but wonder whether there was a grain of truth in there too. We will see I guess
