I'm not sure it's quite as simple as that - Ipswich have played a fairly attacking system all season. Davis has been exposed because of it - now could he be doing better individually in defensive scenarios? Possibly? Probably? But every player is only as good as the system they're playing in - if your fullback is exposed because your balance is off, he's not going to look great.

That being said, he may well not be up to it, but there's at least some context there that needs to be taken into consideration.

Edit - Just remembered being told a few months ago that he actually played as a centre back at Leeds, so I'm not sure he'll be completely defensively inept

Patterson gets enough grief for his defensive awareness. Some of Davis’ match of the day clips, highlighted by shearer & Co, have shown a really poor positional understanding, makes Alexander-Arnold’s defensive traits seem like prime Maldini’s. Davis appears too offensive, Mykolenko appears to defensive, our scouting department need to Identify the right balance for that full back role.

Mid table 7th -14th.......................2 spots get you Europe

Thats my point, we are already Mid table based on form since Moyes took over. Our squad is already a mid-table squad, we should be aiming to improve next year not stagnate.
Most of what I have seen is it will take a few transfer windows blah blah blah.......happy with mid table next couple of years and then challenge for Europe.
This is too defeatist, at a minimum we need to be aiming and challenging for those two spots you mentioned. We are Everton FFS and we need to be back where we belong!

I 100% agree, the whole 'thought process' of what we should be aiming for is weird anyway.
Its a made up fallacy.

If the players we have prepare properly, are coached properly and everyone involved puts in maximum effort, than whatever the 'aim' is, isn't really important.

We could finish 12th next season but have been really unlucky in....say 4 games with referee decisions and that could cost us an extra 8 points, which would be the difference between 13th & 7th.

There's nothing in the league from 6th down (Liverpool, Arsenal, City than Chelsea, Villa & Newcastle) and even some of them on there day are poor.
Utd & Spurs have the funds for a big transformation, but that requires a lot of things aligning (Dycheism there).

The rest is a free for all of who wins most against the other teams in that 7th-16th bracket

We probably don't like to admit it, as he's a lovely fella, but the moves not worked, and at 28 (soon) there are some serious questions around it to me.

The same with DCL really in a different way. Players in their late 20s with injuries are a big gamble.

Red Echo names 5 players who have declared they wish to remain at Everton. I doubt many fans would like to see any of them stay. We have to make a shift from accepting mediocre footballers as the norm, as if there is no choice. Massive close season ahead for Moyes. I hope it brings a massive clearout.

I wonder if this is down to their deep love for the club, or the fact that with their contracts expiring there is a distinct lack of interest from other clubs willing to offer them a deal anywhere near they have been getting out of us the last few years.

Oh definitely. I was just talking about the basic premise really. If he moves this summer it's not going to be to a club at the pinnacle of the game, we'd be very much in with a shout of getting a player like him at any time, finances permitting.

It is that simple, according to 2 of my best mates who go every week. The step up to the Premier league is just too much for 90% of the Ipswich players, it’s too unforgiving. Davis is small, his positioning has been terrible and he’s not comfortable going towards his own goal. Both full backs are being left exposed by the midfield as well (far more at the beginning of the season) but he’s just not been good enough. He won’t be the first or last player that looks great in the championship and then looks like he’s never kicked a ball before in this league.
