I think you’re right. Southampton want 40 million by most accounts so would be very weird for them to reject 43.

I just dont get it, what is going on in the recruitment team.

They are doing what most teams do in fairness. Southampton would have given us a figure and we are trying to work towards it rather than just giving them it straight. I think the issues will be more around adding and sell on fee. The sell on fee is the big part of the deal here, I fully expect him to move to a bigger club within 3/4 years for a decent fee.

The rejection could be as simple as tweaking the terms of add ons.

They put a very silly initial valuation on him so they have some face to save so need to look like they’ve scrapped for every penny.

Based on nothing in particular I think it'll end up being £22mil+5mil for Dewsbury Hall and £30mil+7mil for Dibling with a 10% sell-on.

45m would be close to our record transfer. That can't be a signing for just potential. It needs to be for a top player who will help immediately.

Does make you wonder what the plan is when the club have said repeatedly all summer that Mcatee is the number one target but they're gunshy of going to 40 for him and then they out if nowhere bid 43 for Dibling who wasn't even mentioned til a fortnight ago.
