One of those players was someone we already had an agreement in place with from last season, and one is a backup keeper who’ll never see the pitch. It’s August and we are significantly weaker than we were at the end of last season. It’s about time our fans woke up now that they can’t use “it’s still July” as an excuse anymore.

No serious club waits until the end of August to do the bulk of their business. I was under the impression we were going to start acting like a serious club but alas it appears we’re still an utter basket case.

We could have had Andringa from Brighton but didn’t want him. And I’m sure there’s plenty more like that.
But we will see at the end of the window, the worry is the longer it goes, teams know you’re desperate.

I think we need 2 or 3 in by Leeds and they need to be starters not bench players

Sorry to but in, but I bet you couldn’t like. My understanding is that we agreed that deal in January last season (as part of the Tommy Watson deal).

If we’re waiting until the end of the window to secure two loan deals as our major signings then yes that absolutely makes us a basket case.

Because for both players the teams in question want to get rid of them on permanent deals. They won't let them leave on loan until they're certain they can't get someone to take them permanently, this means it won't happen until late in the window. They will wait as long as possible until they agree to let them go on loan.

If they're our top two targets in their respective positions and we can't get them on loan until the end of the window then you can argue that shouldn't make them our top targets, but the reverse of this is that Moyes/the club could argue that they're happy to not have these players available for the 3 opening games as long as they can get their top picks.

I don't think that makes us a basket case, it's a calculated decision

So he’d agreed to join a championship club. Sorry but no way that was happening, his agent was offering him around

Yes. The club would have to be very sure that these players want to come here if this is the strategy.
