Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Walcott was a better player than any of our current wingers and strikers almost entirely based off his ability to burst past defenders so yeah I’d love to sign his equivalent for next season
No he wasn't. You mean you would pick Walcott ahead of N'diaye?

Walcott was pretty useless. All that pace and he managed 11 goals in 85 matches. Funnily enough his stats at Southampton were almost identical, 10 goals in 82 matches. At Arsenal with top players alongside he did well, elsewhere else not. No-pace-McNeil has 14 in 99 plus 16 assists (Walcott had 9).

Because we need to be able to counter quickly and its easier to source players with pace and the composure you mention than play possession based footy as you need a better quality of playmaking skill and all your players to be comfortable on the ball, such as City have to be effective. And that costs big money.

Of course not only pace is enough but in this league pace can be a weapon look at Forest and Palace in the semi, they use raw pace on the counter attack of course you don't want headless chickens but we really don't have enough pace, especially in wide areas, its partly why our counter attacks break down. We also don't have composure you mention either the amount of attacks that break down due that, Doucoure or Beto are two examples but also we need someone in midfield who can dictate and with the vision to pick out players.
Forest's and Palace's wide players are also technical.

Main reason our counters break down is not pace but poor decisionmaking. You could have Usain Bolt in his prime and it wouldn't help when the guy with the ball either doesn't pass to him to misplaces the pass. Since Moyes has come in, I haven't thought pace is the issue, we have had promising looking counters with our players getting forward and then Doucoure or Beto looses the ball when it looked easier to pass to a free teammate.

N'diaye is quick enough but again, doesn't help much if we can't play to ball to him in space. He also has technique and ability to go past his man.

The West Ham fans don`t seem convinced by Potter at all and considering he`s only been there a few months, that doesn`t bode well for him.
Potter took a while to get his ideas in at Brighton. He doesn't seem like a guy who delivers overnight. I'd wait until next season.

Fans are fickle. Couple of months of poor football and manager is the worst manager ever and every player is worst in his position in the entire history of the club.

Don`t think his personality helps either, as he`s a bit of strange fella.

I used to see him out and about on nights out, when he played for York City years ago and he was strange then too.

I don't get this obsession with pace. Walcott had tons of pace, would people be happy with someone like that?

I rather we sign players with good technique and footballing brain. Those abilities are far more useful than the ability to run really fast on a straight line. Yes, I'd like the players to be faster than McNeil, but I don't want headless chickens just because they are rapid.
Tbf haft the time Walcott attacked up the wing and he was faster than our strikers so got pinned in waiting for our strikers to catch up and usually lost it as he couldn’t keep the ball.

He's still dining out on his good footy he played at Brighton.

He has earned a right few quid because of that.
Would be my fav for the sack race next season.
leeds are already looking to sack their manager before he has even had a game in the prem with them
