Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

20m for a player on big wages who will likely only have a few good seasons left is that really good use of funds? Longstaff as a squad filler I get. I also understand we need a mix of youth and experience I just think we should be looking at younger and more hungry in the main, saddling ourselves with players who could easily go off a cliff soon and we have no resale, is what we have done before. We could target a left winger and move Ndiaye into the ten even.
Agree with you if gana is off then can see him coming in, but 100% we cant just go crazy on wages ect think 15/20 would be fair for him. Is on 90 i think at west ham so would think similar here

Also whilst he is a threat in the air we need to find pace in every attacking area for me. We could target a left winger and move Ndiaye into the ten even.

7 goals this season, 7 goals last. I’m not sure our other central midfielders compare very favourably in the goals department.

If posters are highlighting Cairney, Longstaff and Brownhill then lets take a step back for a moment.

Surely this means the league is nothing like the 90s or 00s and with some intelligent moves we could rise up the table.

Yann Bisseck at Inter and Grealish mentioned on some sites (im half asleep so probably dodgy ones).

I'll throw in a name, Baleba at Brighton would be nice.

Your more then half asleep if your suggesting Baleba…..think your out cold and dreaming

I personally think Longstaff would be an upgrade in our midfield, even if it’s not a statement signing by any measure. But I don’t think £20M would be the price or that a player like him at that price is wise.

More importantly, I have no doubt he will extend his contract. He’s a local and seems content with the chances he gets.

We have more chance to get Miley, who isn’t happy. But he’d cost a penny and isn’t a proven starter yet.

Yes he does offer ariel threat but he has also played as a ten for many games, its a decent return and Moyes trusts him so as a player for the squad he is fine and covers multiple positions. I am not against signing him totally, I just think we need to limit these types to one or two and surround them with emerging players pace and cutting edge if we want to move on. We can't sign multiple older players with "PL experience" in big wages again, we did this when we got Sig and Rooney and when we got James, Allan and Doucoure, its a short term solution they don't get better and there is a danger with players who have played alot is they can drop off a cliff suddenly look at Ashley Williams when he came. It will eventually cost us if we don't develop into a European qualifying/chasing team, we need to realise dynamism and players who will have value you can develop and sell are needed alongside some experience. Look at Forest and how they have overachieved and its pace with their wingers and creation with MGW and Anderson and having a reliable forward. We have very little pace in our team and no reliable forward.

Don't see him much of an upgrade on Garner and Tim (who can develop into something very good IMO as a box to box).

Dont forgot Longstaff has had Bruno and Tonali next to him which improves anyone.
