Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

No, there is a bigger footballing world out there than PL proven or wasted potential. You may be correct and he works out for whoever signs him, but there is European football to look at, the Asian market, and the Americas, it doesn’t just have to be those two profiles of footballer. A good string scouting network and analytics should allow us to widen our net for good young footballers.
You tell me which countries we could sign players I can list players signed from there who failed after moving to PL.

Consequently one of Moyes's best signings was Arteta, who seemed washed away when he was signed. You wouldn't have taken him based on your comments.

I can remember the reports of the two of them arguing over Ward-Prowse. Moyes wanted him and Steidten didn't. Not sure about the others.
I listened to a pod that summer with a West Ham journalist and there was rumours Moyes could go in the summer because not seeing eye to eye with the DOF. Who wanted younger players Moyes wanted prem experience. So the likes of Maguire, Mctominay etc obviously were who Moyes wanted and ward prowse for 30mil at 29 was a terrible buy

Think most would agree what he did first time around was very impressive, since then his recruitment at all his clubs has been extremely patchy. And it’s a different time now. And I think if you have to watch a player 25 times, in this day and age you will get left behind

Not looking for an argument or even a debate about this, you are of course entitled to your views.

No, people are simply commenting on his recruitment at West Ham with the facts, figures, and players brought there for all to see. If you personally think he recruited well then that’s your opinion which of course you’re entitled to. Others including myself, think he recruited poorly overall. We all have opinions.

I’m sorry did West Ham not have a director of football? If they did, can we rewrite everything we ever said about Kevin Thelwell on this forum?

Could it be because he's been injured for most of the past year? He was still injured when they loaned him. He hasn't played a full 90 minutes this season which suggests he is not fully fit.
Which is a red flag in itself.
Part of recruitment is not bringing in players that have certain 'injury' problems

Been available since they signed him and Potter has still opted not to give him a start.
Even DCL doesn't need a 4 month introduction into the a starting place

Most agree because they have forgotten how patchy his signings were back then as well. Beattie, Kroldrup, Bilyaletdinov, Johnson (at least scored a few but we paid a lot for him), van der Meyde, Heitings (one good season, [Poor language removed] after that), Jelavic (half a good season, [Poor language removed] after that), Wright (our most expensive goalie by that point), Davies, etc.

Don't think anyone knows definitively how much input Moyse had at WH.Doubt very much he had one hundred percent freedom to choose who he wanted.

It's now mid-April. He was injured until February. So where does that four months come from? You yourself can see there have been 8 matches since. And there have been plenty of examples of players struggling when they miss the whole pre-season. We have seen it with some of our own players.

Huerzeler seems impressed with his attitude: https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/24521709.brightons-evan-ferguson-gets-high-praise-fabian-huerzeler/.

No it wasn't. He signed loads of duds, some for quite large sums at the time.
Overall I would say that isn’t true. There were a lot of very successful players in there and the duds were not overly expensive at all. Granted there were one or two that stood out like Beattie, but to say his first stint with us wasn’t successful in terms of transfers based on money spent is a little crazy.

none of those are ready/good enough to lead the line on a consistant basis.

If we are signing a centre forward, he needs to be 'the daddy'
We need to be realistic, 15/20+ goal a season strikers dont grow on trees. With creative players around them and a team playing to their strengths I think each of these could hit double figures and who knows where they go from there with confidence.
Ferguson has looked the real deal when playing for Ireland and the only place I heard his character called into question is on here. I think Brighton will loan him out again as it hasnt worked out at Westham but I would insist on an option. With a preseason and a run of games I think he could be "the daddy" you mention.
He may not be but its low risk, high potential reward, remember he is only 20 (younger than Chermiti).
