Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think you’re conflating how it can be done (and that’s probably the case with Moyes), and the sh1t show of the last few years.

You are welcome to show me the examples of how many times its benefited us after selling our best players every summer probably for two decades now to prove your point mate.

By the logic being suggested we must have improved to the point of being Champions now with all the good players we've sold to improve by now.

As an over all trend selling your best players to improve, doesnt happen.

It will be a very very tough window... there will be 8 or 9 teams able to raid Everton for our best players and we are probably 13th or 14th in the queue for any good players that become available.

I’ve got no point to prove. If you look at my first response to you, I agreed. The only logic I put forward was that O’Brien probably replaces him and does well. So the rest of your tripe about us being champions is just nonsense.

Do like the look of that Hanko loves blocks and slide tackles, and I always love a leftie.

I'm not worried at all Eggs. If Branthwaite is going it would be negligent not to have a replacement lined up.

I'd start making peace with Branthwaite leaving mate.

If Keane goes a back up centre half, in defence i would be happier if we were looking at full backs only really. A powerful box to box midfielder, a fast skilfull right winger with goals in him and a striker who scored goals for starters.

Won’t be all on Moyes,
Roma were consistently selling their best players till TFG walked through the door and then it stopped. So let’s see, I think TFG will see it a big own goal, if the first think they do is sell the golden boy

Sometimes 'everyone' can be so negative -- theres really no need to be.

LB: Mykolenko
LCB: Branthwaite
RCB: Tarkowski
RB: New signing

LCB/LB: Hancko (250games at LCB / 50 games LB).

RCB/ RB: O'Brien (50games at RCB / 13 games RB)

If we signed Hancko & a RB then knowing Moyes that's his defence completed as he prefers to go with a small squad.

He may even keep Patterson around and bring in a young left back -- the man is defence first.

Weve also been linked with Dennis Cirkin at Sunderland, 128 games at LB, 25 at Centre back. Perhaps hes a 3rd defensive signing or signed instead of Hancko.

Whoever the players are, I fully expect him to sign two defenders, a RB & a LB/LCB.

Not sure what the correlation is with Branthwaite at all.

I think Jake has a bit to go at Centre half myself mate.

Ok mate.
Yep, we definitely need to know if he can slot in there. That’s part of the reason we haven’t done succession planning well in the past. His experience in France suggests he can come in and do well, albeit in a different league. For the foreseeable future though, we are going to be a club where our best players get a move to bigger clubs. That’s just an unfortunate fact, but one that most clubs in the world live by. To keep progressing at the same time we need to have continuity, proper succession planning and a playing identity, so that players can be identified and brought in for specific roles. We haven’t had that for decades now. Last thing I’ll say though is that I hope JB stays and progresses with us.

Not the case anymore, in this PSR era

Villa sold Grealish and rocketed up the table, Forest sold Johnson and likewise. Loads more examples too

There were a few seasons between selling Grealish and Villa doing well mate - Gerrard pretty much squandered the Grealish money - think the game changer was Emery. They sold Grealish in 21 and made the CL in 24.

Forrest were below us in the table after selling Johnson last season.

In both cases i dont put their successes is down to selling Grealish or Johnson.

If we kept our best players, spent a bit and broke PSR next year - i dont think id be too worried, it was really only when it could have relegated us that its was a major stress. Ideally you wouldn't want to do it - but if your midtable you wouldn't be to bothered

Take Forest they breached PSR purposefully - to become an established PL club and possibly now a CL club - was it worth it long term - probably.................

Yeah I’m just braced for that Crystal Palace raid for Branthwaite.

We don’t need to sell anyone unless the price is right, and Everton are back to being a more attractive proposition than the likes of Fulham or Brentford.

Branthwaite hasn't been as good this season, probably because of his injury and lack of a preseason. So if we can get him on another contract maybe next summer he will be at peak value. Can't see anyone offering the 70m plus we want and if they do so be it. Even so we still need another centre back with Tarks aging and Keane leaving, regardless so I don't see why bringing one in means JB is being sold. Also that Hancko sounds like he can play LB too, Moyes has form for playing CBs at LB to get them acclimatised

Selling Branthwaite could allow club to completely overhaul the squad. No need to sign short-term stop gaps. 80m transfer fee could allow something like 200 million splashed on incomings thanks to the way amortization works + fact that club's income will increase at BMD. That 80 million would mean no worries about PSR this or next year.

English, young, potentially the best in the league.

You simply dont sell. You build around him

Or whats the point of a new ground?

My theory was always that we bought O’Brien ‘ just in case” Utd came in with a late offer on deadline day for Branthwaite. I’m hoping we can hold on to him for one more season and let his value increase . Unfortunately none of our youngsters are any where near capable of stepping up as CBs yet.

As ive always said, Branthwaite & O'Brien dont even play in the same position.

Just do not think we sell Branthwaite this summer tbh. Terrible optics for TFG/new board to come in and sell our best player the first chance they get, makes them look skint.

Not skint but it totally ruins any belief I and many fans would have that they want to build the club to compete at the top.

They could sell him and spend £300mil but who cares? I want to see Branthwaite take the team forward.

We will spend and have the capicity to do so from July 1st again it’s the glass half empty fans who think we need to sell Branthwaite for 80/90mil and then 70 goes to PSR and we spend 20mil. It’s utter nonsense we can spend good money with out selling Branthwaite and again TFG won’t want to be selling our biggest asset as soon as they walk through the door

If they sell him then they will lose a lot of support.

This is generally true. Although in this case, there’s a chance that O’Brien comes in and does a great job. Getting in 80m can get us competing far quicker.

O'Brien doesnt even play in the same position.

He has 3 yrs left,
If he doesn’t sign a new deal we sell next summer and we probably do a 100mil release clause if he signs a new deal

If he pushes for it on a 5 year deal. Otherwise no clause.

Are you saying O’Brien can’t play left centre half?

Ive seen him live a good fw times at centre half mate, he has a bit of developing to do IMO. I think wed miss Branthwaite in a transition to Jake myself - as well as he is doing at the moment out right - at a pinch.

Im not dogmatic on selling players, its a necessary part of football, but as i said there is a way of doing it, extract 4-6 years of there careers to your benefit growing the club and then realise their value - as i said we couldn't buy Villa, Spurs or Newcastles best players - if we keep giving them our best players we wont compete with them - so whats the point - its absolutely illogical to say we will improve, when you strengthen those you compete with. You must NOT want to sell your best players, or meekly accepet it.

People have convinced themselves, that this is the way - its not.

We need first teamers, a six who can pass, a ten who can create/score, a right winger and a striker. Then you are also looking at back ups /players to compete at left back, centreback, right back, another winger, possibly another keeper.
