Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's way more than £200 million. When they list the players they missed off £45 million Sigurdsson just as one example.

When we ran out of money we did well to stay in the Premie League as the lowest spenders for years. There should be some credit to Kevin Thelwell for that.

He did a good job, would have been interesting to watch what he could have done with a little more money to spend and 2-3 seasons of negative net spend.

All those players in the list make Maupay almost bearable, who we lost maybe 5-6m in the end and paid an adequate price (1 in 4 goal premier league proven player) in my opinion.

Lot of average to middling premier league players have gone to Serie A and looked good. Anguissa, Lukaku, Lookman, Tomori, McTominay, Kean.

Equally a lot of top players from Serie A have come here and looked out of their depth.

I'm not sure whether it's an environment thing (curse of Man U/Everton etc.) or whether Serie A is just a level below the other European leagues ATM in terms of quality and physicality. My thoughts are that it's the latter. 3 or 4 years ago I'd have advocated for using the Italian market to get good technicians on the cheap. Now I'd say to swerve!

I do have a soft spot for Serie A but Italian football has definitely regressed as seen in the decline of the national side.

The deficiencies in their academy structures are only now being addressed, and with a lack of financing, a lot of the imports brought in to plug gaps have been of mediocre quality.

I, too, would be wary of buying from there but we couldn't rule it out either. There are plenty of good players there, it just depends on thorough scouting and a little luck.

Get your point but don't think I'd be including Lukaku in a list 'average to middling' Premier League players

Don't think you can disregard players purely due to the league they come from - players move from one Premier League club to another and struggle and vice versa.

If you look at some clubs around us who've taken players from Serie A and done well just in just the last few seasons there's Huijsen, Damsgaard, Milenkovic, Aina. Definitely still quality to be found, but whoever's in charge of our recruitment have to ask can they do what they do well in Serie A (or any other league) in the way we want to play at Everton.

Was looking at who's leaving and who's left, I've only assumed Gueye and Coleman will stay out of those with contracts up so based on that we pretty much need a new player for every position. Some of those are rotation but some are starters.

Need a starting CF, RW, CM and RB. Need backup CM, LB, CB and GK. People would argue we'd maybe need more than that like but that's bare minimum in my head and that's quite alot of players when we're still under PSR restrictions

This is why "utility men" like Weah could be the order of the day. He played RW, RB, LW, LB, RM, LM and CF last season. Could be a canny signing.

Scouting department need to earn their money , plenty of good talent around South America for example. Those teams are showing up the European teams for spending over the odds on mediocre players all the time and proving it in the world club cup . Problem is agents have their tentacles all over the owners and prem clubs so we'll be one of the clubs paying over the odds for players like Tierno Barry when we could pick up a player as talented from Brazil for half the price . (Igor Jesus or Plata for example)
Except our lot who went to South America and came back with Denis Stracqualursi.

“Tell ye what boys, all these lot are technical aren’t they, that’s a given, what we’re looking for is someone who runs about a lot and shows fight, yes, that’s the key”.
