Summer Transfer Window 2017

Rumours we have fell behind Liverpool for Keane.

Why didn't we try and get this deal done in January instead of faffing about? We knew there would be serious interest from top clubs in the summer and we would likely miss out.

We're absolutely hopeless at transfers.
That translates to its a bigger story for the journos, so lets conjure up BS

Dendoncker is more an holding midfielder and he's decent tbf but is that the type of midfielder we need anymore? Maybe Koeman is thinking of getting rid of McCarthy and isn't sure if Besic will get back fit so could see Dendoncker as a good squad players right now?

I do wonder if some rumours of late are a load of tosh, most are but especially when were linked to 19, 20, 21 year olds?! Koeman said he wanted players in their prime, players aged between 26-30! I know we will look at younger players and look keen on Sandro who is 21 and will be 22 in September but most players we do get linked to are youngsters really....

This is a point I have been dwelling on for some time. We have never had the money to improve our first eleven all over the pitch, since I was a kid we have budgeted our money well, selling £30m player and bringing in 2-3 £6m players to steadily improve.
By time we put together the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, cahill, Jagielka, Lescott, baines etc we had a big injury, Arteta, Jagielka and yakubu spring to mind !
This is then where we realised the importance of squad players, we struggled to match big teams 11 for 11, but when we did push them, they simply brought 3x £20m players of the bench to change the game.

Koeman may well be looking to improve the first 11 but we realistically need to improve our first 15-16. A few gems and youngsters around the team from the U23s would then fill the gaps.

Or these La Liga lads we're rumored with.

Nothing against them. But if we're looking for top 4 and titles? Maybe not

It's difficult though. We can't just go out and buy players that will get us top 4 and titles. They simply won't want to come here.

It has to be a gradual improvement over time. Which requires patience. Something most football fans, myself included sometimes, do not have.

Papers always make crap up I know, but if pickford is available for £17m and Klaassen available for £21m then ffs Everton go and offer £20m and £25m, get the bloody job done. Then target Rooney (haterz gonna hate) Gylfi, dolberg and Keane, if Keane goes back to united then look at Kara Mbodj or Diakhaby from Lyon.

Selling the likes of Niasse, cleverly and other fringe players would reduce the outgoing costs a little.

Wenger said: “I would love to (keep him). If I’m the manager, I would love to keep him. We have to sit down together and see if he has a reasonable chance to play next season or not.

“Yes, [I understand his frustration] of course. He’s a top-quality striker and I couldn’t give him the games that he wants and that he deserves. I must confess that.

“I feel sorry for him on that front, but we have more strikers available now because we had the situation where Giroud was not clear at the start of the season, we didn’t know when Welbeck would come back, and in the end there was a congestion there. Don’t take anything away from his quality.”

Wonder if the ship has sailed on Lucas Perez for us. If Lukaku does go - then I would like to see us bring in 3 strikers to share the goal load - Perez, Sandro and another?

I read today that Sunderland will slap 30m on Pickford.. not sure how well that will go down considering he will be a Championship player..

...United and us aren't that far apart, or at least weren't when we got Schneiderlin.

Id question if you asked the guys in charge of united that, they would come up with the same answer.
United are one of the biggest clubs in the world from top to bottom

We finished 7th and the gap between us and regularly fighting for the top 6 is still big. We need to improve this summer and next January, then the following summer we can go for Top 4 quality players.

I question weather we did know that.
our transfer negotiator probably spoke to Keane & Burnley, they said they wanted him until end of the season, our transfer negotiator probably said 'thats great, you have both given me your word, thanks for that, that is enough for me to think you will be joining us this summer" goes off to watch cats, comes back in the summer "eeeerrr i thought we had a gentleman's agreement"

The bigger teams on the other hand, relentlessly use every outlet they requore to get a player, contacts in media, wadds of cash, players saying how great it would be to play with them (John Terry n Cahill with John Stones, or Drogba with Lukaku), going over the clubs head the agent. Etc etc etc

I have said since January we missed out on Keane, the second he got that england cap, Burnley would of seen £'s and they could start a bidding war.
I feel the same will happen with a few more of our targets, especially Pickford.

I would love to be proven wrong, but history dosent lie.

Ogbonna calling us gentlemen, Sam Byram, Sissoko, the whole Witsel fiasco (i understand they were probably all blessings in disguise, but that is not the point)

This 100%, we cant compete with the teams above us, so we need to go in there and give the selling clubs no option but to sell to us.
And early, catch people off guard

...I don't disagree but the point I make is that players move to rivals, Wellbeck went to Arsenal.

Can't be bothered playing for the club that pays his wages but always seems fit enough to join up with Ireland squads.............where he picks up a new hamstring injury that keeps him out until the next international break. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, James.
It would smack him on the back of his head if it were me shutting it.

I'd sell and put the proceeds towards Tielemans fee. Sound investment with a different skill set.
