Summer Transfer Window 2017

That's the area we have to exploit: players who the big guns look at and wonder whether they can make the big time and swerve for more evidence.

The likes of Tielemans have been given too much fanfare and I think he's now beyond us.

As for various people saying about - can't have too many young players etc, think few remember just how young our squad was back in84/85

Southall (25) VDH (23) Ratcliffe (23) Mountfield (21) Stevens (21) Sheedy (24) Reid (28) Bracewell (22) Steven (20) Sharp (23) Gray (28)

even the like of Richardson (21) Heath (23)

..very good point. You tend to think of Reid and Gray being in their 30s, I suppose both came physically broken but with still plenty to offer.

Back 4 and keeper with an average age of 23 must be a record tbh, not one i ever expect to see broken either, agree with Reid and Gray - stuck in my mind i always seem to remember them in a similar way to Barry when he came from City age wise...

..I've always thought that side was a good team model to replicate but I'd never considered the ages.

It was young and hungry, something our teams have very rarely been since (if at all), it was a team built to not only win short term but to become a dominant team for years mate

Consider that Reid and Gray aside - the oldest outfield player (Sheedy) had 6 years still before he hit 30, we then went and signed Lineker who was only 24 himself at the time - so was a model that Kendall obviously saw as the way to go.

Frightening stat alert... 7 of that starting 11 where the same age or younger than Barkley is now...

Just like in January, they've had absolute ages to prepare for this and there's no reason whatsoever why the deals couldn't be done already and announced on 1 July. Now I strongly doubt that's the case as that rules out BK being able to haggle on the last 50 quid of the deal, but until we start doing our dealings like a big team, then we will remain an irrelevance.

With Bill and Elstone still having a influence chances of this happening are slim

Here is a question, and don't focus 100% on the specific players but think of players of the ilk (value) of those mentioned.....

Suppose we sell:
Niasse, Cleverley, Delboy, Funes Mori, McCarthy and Tarashaj for a combined 60M (plus Kone leaves on a free)
and buy:
Van Dijk, Klaassen, Pickford, Sandro, Onyejuru for 110M while adding Ghezzal and Taylor on a free

That is a net spend of 50M. Are we happy with the resultant team? 6 out who don't feature (plus Mori who i don't think i would sell, but for the exercise he is sold) replaced by 7 in, 4-5 of whom would likely feature regularly.

Sure we may not really get VVD, but then we might not get Sandro either. Together they are 60M - hard to imagine getting a striker and CB for less than 60M combined. I can't imagine we would spend more than 50 net and seeing what 50 net gets us don't believe we can afford to spend less and advance our cause.

It may be stereotyping, but i also get the feeling the Belgium players always want that big move instantly, a Danish player - maybe not so much

Dolberg IMO anyway, is a far superior prospect to Tielemans, not knocking the Belgium lad, but one of his best attributes is his long range shooting etc - not a chance on earth he gets the space he's been used to and will he be able to adjust?

Dolberg looks very much the complete centre forward.

Dendoncker is another interesting one - bit older than both - but maybe one of those thats managed to pass udner the radar as he's a more defensive player

In a world where Jordan Ibe goes for 15m, Bolasie for 23m, Niasse goes for 13m and we where willing and Spurs DID pay 30m for Sissoko Martial for God knows how much, then Dolberg is comfortably worth whatever Ajax would want to let him go - be that 30-40m or higher
Dolberg: it depends on the price for me. Anything daft like £30M is not worth the risk - not when you see the mixed fortunes their strikers have had in recent years in the PL.

He looks good. It'd be nice for us to be in the position I mentioned the big guns are in: having another club blood him in the PL and then take him on.

Tielemans: he has a lot of admirers. I cant honestly say I've seen loads of him so I cant really make a stand on it. @Armel would know a lot more of his capabilities.

yep, i want us to do that tbh, i mean obviously i'd love us to splash £60m on someone like james rodriguez or isco like some on here want, but that's unrealistic. If you look at spurs, those have been the good signings, who have been the bad ones? The bigger names who were bought for bigger money like sissoko £30m, lamela £32m, soldado £26m. Money is irrelevant, it's all about the player and their adaption. Pogba is a world record fee, massively overrated because of his media appeal and united fell for it, an utter flop so far. Ibrahimovic on the other hand was £89m less and has single handedly carried them all season when he's been fit.

Exactly mate, not every £30m plus signing works out. If we're savvy with our buys and get the right ones in, the right blend, then I'm sure we'll be fine. Like you say, we'd all like those xfactor signings for 50, 60 million plus but we're not an attractive enough proposition for those kind of players just yet...

De Telegraaf says Klaassen is available for £21m, and we have serious interest

Very reliable news outlet in Holland and Koeman has his own column in that paper. I'm sure they were the ones that run with Koeman coming to us before most and stuck to their guns and for obvious reasons. If they say we're seriously interested then we will be.

Rumours we have fell behind Liverpool for Keane.

Why didn't we try and get this deal done in January instead of faffing about? We knew there would be serious interest from top clubs in the summer and we would likely miss out.

We're absolutely hopeless at transfers.

We did, Burnely wouldn't sell at that point...
