Summer spending....

So we have so far, outspent Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle put together! I bet that hasn't happened for a long time.

To be fair there is probably only Bony at Swansea (outside of Chelsea, Man City) that I've thought 'shame we didn't get him'. Some of the deals so far by clubs have been massively over-priced for the players they are getting.

Our wage bill is way higher than the likes of Norwich, Southampton etc.

Maybe you should take some of your
own advice.
You said our wage bill is irrelevant to our transfer budget. That's one of the
most downright stupid statements I've
ever seen on this site, yet you have
the nerve to tell me to think before
posting

Whatever ....

You have missed the point by so much that its embarrasing. Of course transfer budget and wage budget go hand in hand, but when all clubs suddenly recieve a huge lump sum, then their relative wage budgets that have already been set are not really of relevance. I cant really type that out any simpler for you.

The point you have missed is that it hasn't been banked yet.

Then you should tell that to West Ham, Southampton, Norwich and Swansea who have all spent a minimum of fifteen million so far this summer.

Its not even a debate really, the fact is Everton have really struggled in the transfer market over a good few years because:

Our commercial deals are well short of those picked up by clubs of similar stature
Money leaks out of the club through high interest loans from sources that other clubs wouldnt touch
The chairman and board are unwilling or unable to generate funds via themselves or investment.

who are those 8 teams?
(assuming you're talking about net spend as when a team receives 50m for a player... they tend to be able to spend 50m)

I'm talking wages and net fees.

Chelsea, City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool as the 5 who spend approximately £100m more than us per season.

Tottenham, Villa outspend us by up to £50m on wages and fees each year (last year Villa spent £30m more on wages and £20m more on fees)

Then you get clubs like Newcastle, QPR who occasionally go on a spree and join that group.

The budget at Wigan is virtually non existent and relied on a big sale every year and what Dave Whelan could come up with. It was considerably less than the money available at Norwich, West Brom or Swansea.

Not true at all. The published accounts show Wigan spent roughly £40m on wages. They are by no means unique in being low spenders.

In fact you'll notice Everton being FAR closer to Wigan in wage spending then they are to the clubs we compete against at the top of the table.

Testament to how well Moyes has done under Kenwrights constraints?

I like how you ignored his actual point about the sale of players without replacements and looked at wages instead.

lol, so on the one hand you're moaning that we've not spent next years TV income yet & on the next that we've got high interest loans, that were taken out for exactly the purpose that you're moaning about i.e. borrowing against future TV revenue.

Hilarious.

Of course he did. That tactic is on page one of the Usual Suspects Helpful Hints On How To Avoid Being Wrong On The Internet Even When Youre Wrong....'never actually answer any questions directly'.

Nope. At no point did i suggest a high interest loan from a source that no other club would touch. You seem to know the exact dates that the money is recieved by the clubs? If you do, then i imagine Barclays do.
