Strikers

Jela is a top slotter and a natural one touch finisher, what he's not is a target man, run the channels, hold the ball up kind of striker which he's bin doing all season. All I'm saying is if Martinez can get him the service he can score goals, why spend a fortune on a new striker when we've already got a quality one, coz lets face it strikers arnt cheap, look at Carroll they want 15 mill for him and he's ****e!!

Spot on mate, he will get in the positions if the ball is played into him. Our style of play needs to change for Jelavic to really kick on.

Jela looked world class when he arrived last season. **** knows what happened to him this season though. He looks so devoid of confidence right now I don't think we can risk going into a new season with him as no1 choice. If we had a decent striker this season we would have qualified for europe no question. Anichebe for me is next to useless, his attitude stinks and his workrate is poor for a man mountain of a lad, he should be kicking ass every game.

This.

Martinez will no doubt have watched the tape on Jelavic to establish what has gone wrong this season. If he's got the balls to tell Bill he'll get us into the CL, then solving Jelavic will presumably be simple. If it hasn't worked by January, well that's a different matter.

FWIW I think Anichebe has proved this year that he's most effective coming off the bench and having the odd start here and there, rather than starting every week. I could see him getting 12 - 15 goals a season in that role.

Buying a genuine RM/RW will cost less, and have a bigger impact: we won't be so reliant on Mirallas, Coleman may get the protection he needs, we could start to phase Pienaar out (by shifting Mirallas over to the left, which he seems to prefer) AND we'd have a bit of balance in midfield, leading to better service to our strikers.

Or we can spend nearly £20m on Negredo or similar, and get the same results as before.

A player like Long would not cost 20m,it doesn't have to be him,but at the end of the day we do not do strikers
We are never on the list of top goal scorers,we seem to take the scenic route when it comes to slotting, and have done for the
Last 15years

Maybe Moyes couldn't be bothered to waste more money on strikers, he bought Beattie, the yak and andy Johnson for a lot of money and all left under a cloud. So he had tried for strikers, its just that don't really develop under Moyes for some reason where midfielders and defenders can excel under Moyes.

I dont think we would see any top strikers like negredo/soldado this summer , as we need to buy goalkeeper and midfield at the same time, i would expect one low cost striker who can be a winger at the same time.

We are not desperate for a keeper, but I think a lot of Evertonians have become conditioned to not playing with a striker
It as kept us back foe several years,so I think I am right when I say Everton don't do strikers.

Y is everyone turning on jela?? Yeah he's had a bad season but we all know he's got it, on his day he's dangerous. Moyes is a renouned striker killer, I think if Martinez can build round him we could spend the money elsewhere.

How do we know hes got it? FFS he had FOUR months or so of poaching goals but has been ****e this season, hes average at international level and has only been probably tested in poor leagues like the SPL so its not like he is RVP and after 2-3 full class years has suddenly turned ****e. He's not good enough

Anichebe has improved ten-fold this year, however despite that improvement, for me, hes still not a first team starter.

He has finally realised that he can literally bully defenders with his sheer size and yard of pace. Against Spurs he was up for it, took the game to them, and was immensely effective. We were very direct to him as there was no Fellaini to aim at, and all he needed to do was stand there and hold the ball, which he did.

Contrast that with the game against Arsenal, where he wanted the same. Arsenal arent great at the back, however Kosc' is not going to try and match Anichebe strength wise so instead just made life difficult. The game was crying out for Anichebe to move left and right down the channels, work the centrebacks and therefore open the space for Pienaar, Kev and Felli (even Barkley), but no - he stood dead centre and if he didnt reach him, well, it didnt reach him.

We need to make a decision. Do we want someone who is going to muck in, be the first line of defence and hopefully score a few goals? ie do we want a Moyes striker? or do we want someone whose sole-purpose in the team is to score goals. The second type doesnt get involved in the dirty stuff because its a waste of energy to them. Some will ask, why cant we have both? Well the only one i know that can do both to a good enough level we sold for £27 million and he plays for Utd.

Make up your mind Martinez. I for one, especially if he chooses 1 up top, hope he takes a risk and gets a goalscorer and gives him the freedom to do just that

If you look at the Yak record, its strange 19 in his first season then 5, 6 and 1 in his final season. then he goes to leicster and scored 11 and then Blackburn with 18. Strange.

In terms of context (i.e. where we are and where we're aiming to be) we've got the worst strike force in the Premiership, no doubt...thankfully we've always had a squad that chips in with goals for it not to be too detrimental.

Sorting out this issue will be something that will endear me to Martinez straight away, as i've mentioned many times on here I count 26 players that have played centre forward for us under Moyes, and not one of them has carried form over into the next season.

I have to remind myself that Anichebe is not a youngster anymore, was a bit like Beckford, I didn't realise how old he actually was (26/27) at the time.

We've definitely got to bring in a decent striker in the summer as if Jelavic doesn't find his form, we're screwed as I don't think Anichebe will be up to much next season. Surely its time for Vellios to be given his chance in the first team

We will go absolutely nowhere without signing a top quality striker this Summer. Personally I think we should be looking to break our transfer record on a quality striker near the top end of the market, but signing someone like Bent for 6 million would be a good deal as well.
