Moyes on Stracq before the City match.

“Until just now it hadn’t looked as if it had paid off, but he did quite well the other night and I was quite pleased how well he’d done."

Doesn't that mean the same thing?

“We thought there was a chance he could score goals. I had it in my mind he’d score goals for us over the Christmas period. I had a feeling that would be his time, because there were a lot of games and in training he looks like someone who can nick a goal. But then obviously the Christmas games came and I didn’t play him in all of them. But we needed to look elsewhere and what he’s got is great heart and great effort and he’s deserved his goal.â€￾

I think people who say he doesn't have technical ability are responding to the fact that as a big guy he doesn't move as smoothly as someone with exceptional balance and agility. That doesn't mean to say that he is poor technically: he showed excellent touches with his head (assist in his first game for Everton, setting the chance for Fellaini last night etc), chest and also feet. Personally, I was quite surprised at how good he was with his feet and most of his passes found a team mate.

Let's not forget, we have a young guy coming to a new country, not speaking the language, playing at a TOTALLY different level, needing time just to get fit and settling into a new club. Most of our better signings took a lot LONGER to settle in: Baines, Jagielka etc were not first-team regulars from the word go and they had PL experience, spoke English, were English etc.

I think it's early to call but effort goes a long way in football and, most importantly, he made a big contribution to our win. If he continues in the same manner, I can see him becoming a worth-while signing.

P.S. I harbour false hope that wee Davie might actually play 2 up top with Jelavic...

Tim Cahill agrees.

Denis!

What an engine the lad will have when he builds his fitness even more though - he looks like he's still got a way to go to reach full prem fitness. With the work rate he's got he could be an absolute monster next season.

All we ask for ,as Evertonians, is that a player puts all his effort in. I havent seen an Everton player put an effort in, like he did last night, for years. It made a total difference to the way Mcfc were allowed to play. He may not seem technically up to it at the moment but i think that will come if he is given more time to progress. It would be good to see him with Jelavic but we will have to wait to see if Moyes is that progressive. Certainly he could play off Jelavic and then join up for crosses from Drenthe/pienaar/donovan. I know one thing though. When he was on all fours in the second half because he had run himself into the ground, but then was all of a sudden chasing down the defender on the other side of the pitch, I couldnt have felt more proud as an Evertonian. Give him a run in the side Moyes and we have a new hero.

Great effort from the Straq in the last couple of games. He won't be starting ahead of Jelavic though, but would be a great impact sub to bring on if things aren't going to plan. It's just great that he's playing well enough now to be considered a serious option for the manager.

He reminds me of Bob Latchford the way he moves, he has the heart of Andy Gray, but I'm not sure whose skill levels he has... At the moment I don't care, through effort alone he has galvanised the crowd and his team mates.

There was an extended segment around the middle of the first half when it seemed like we were allowing City to dictate the terms upon which the match would be played. Straq changed all that with his play at that point. It put City off their typical course of action and, as you said, raised the energy level Everton were at before that time.

Few things are better than watching someone gain confidence with every passing minute he's on the pitch in an Everton shirt.

I will love anyone who puts in a *hit-ton of effort and shows some results.

He works his socks off. And as long as he keeps scoring? Good with me.

Since the 1978 world cup and the posterior arrival of Ardiles and Villa at Spurs, I've always wished we'd sign a silky skilled Argentine. They produce a lot of cultured players so when I heard wewere signing a lad from Tigre I figured it might be the time.
However we got the other type of Argentinian. The type which a lot of people assume doesn't exist. The type who is perfectly suited to the English game in the most traditional sense. The type for whom the communion between the the team and the crowd is vital. The type who'll bleed for the club. The Spanish have an expression ''Pundonor'' or ''question of honour''. The never say die attitude which makes players run through walls for the cause. Keep it up Denis

I have always said to anyone who would listen that there is a player in there as far as Denis is concerned. Im delighted to see him proving some of the doubters wrong after they made a judgement based on 5 minutes here and there.

The interesting part comes at the end of the season. If he continues the way he has been will we buy him? How much would he cost? He was the top scorer in Argentina last season so they will be expecting a decent amount.

I think the price to make his move permanent is something like 0.75-1.5 million. He did well in one of those weird South American half seasons, but failed to land a contract in Europe after that so we've been in a strong negotiation position. He's almost done enough already to justify paying it, but certainly will if he continues giving displays like that.

In my opinion he is looking like everything you'd want in the Cahill role, playing off the striker. I think he could work very very well with someone like Jelavic. Agree with most of these posts, I haven't nearly cried at a standing ovation like that since Big Dunc. He could definitely become another icon IF he can maintain the workrate. If that's how he rolls then I don't see why not. At less than 2m itd be barmy not to sign him up.
