Straq's last two performances

It just shows how we will get behind someone that is giving everything, he was on half way absolutely shagged last night but he still chased back after losing a ball, someone that will run 'til he drops for the cause.

One of those diving headers at the St End with boots all round his nog would propel him into the Cult cat.

Standing Ovation well deserved.

We should sign him up. He is getting better and I think we will soon all see that he's not as limited as some people think.

His touches and lay-offs (whether with his feet or head) suggest that he has a fairly decent footballing brain. He is getting fitter and that will make him quicker (in terms of top speed and reaction time) and sharper. He is already showing that defenders don't like him....he harrasses them and moves them around. That makes space and that's when our other attacking players (whether another striker or attacking midfielders) will find a hole to move into and score.

It's been a while since someone in a Blue shirt actually gave quite so much effort (akin to Cahill a couple of years ago) and I think we should embrace him for that. We may have lost Big Dunc bit we now have Big Den and he will terrify defenders for years to come, whether with us or elsewhere. Let's hope it's with us.

Agree. He has already shown flashes of skill with the ball at his feet. Seeing him and Royston running at the defence is just SO much better than having the one option of floating crosses over to heads in the goalmouth. It keeps defenders occupied, forces them to commit, and so reduces the options of the defending team. Now our attack is looking far less predictable, and that's bound to open defences up and will almost definitely increase our goalscoring ratio. If Jelavic is the better finisher of the two then maybe Straq and Drenthe should be running at the defences and then either having a pop themselves or setting it up for Jelavic, Fellaini, Osman, Cahill et al.

People keep saying Stracq has poor technical ability, but i really don't think thats the case. Last night he showed great vision and skill to nod it onto Fellaini he went close with that shot. Working a triangle into a shot amongst a group of city defenders was impressive. Even Felli was impressed and looked dissapointed he'd not scored. High fives all round.

Also he had a few other good touches and battled thru and earnt us a couple of free kicks. He is really up for it.

I know this lad wasn't on the world beater striker list, but sometimes gems slip through the net and onto the pitch at the Old Lady. I will support the Stracq.

He has skill, he's a bit clumsy. I think that's what people see.

It just shows how much we like hard work at Goodison.

You can have poor technical ability but a fantastic work rate makes up for that. It doesn't work the other way round.

Yeah i dont get why people are saying he isnt that good technically, Hibbert has a high work rate but you wouldnt put him up front would you?

He has a good touch with his chest, seems to be able to head the ball quite well, and he can bring the ball down and either pass and move, or take the ball himself.

We saw against fulham he has little bits of skill, he did a little left foot right foot thing (think arteta vs bolton) at the match and it worked out. He isnt afraid to dribble with the ball and it doesnt look like his passing is that bad either.

Plus his vision to see Fellaini, and cushion the header to the perfect pace was great.

I think he has alot more to show us, and it will grow as the midfield gets better

But don't overdo the 'poor technical ability' aspect. Big players are not usually that technically gifted because of their size, Crouch is an example. That doesn't mean they don't have a good technical brain. I think if people watch him carefully next time he gets a full game they might readjust their assessment of him a little.

That headed cross to fellaini really stood out for me

Meh. His runs when we've got the ball aren't that fantastic and his touch is quite poor. However, once he gets the ball under control he's strong as an ox and lays it off well.

Hope the lad has been given some confidence from his first goal and then a rousing performance last night. Would really like him to succeed because he does look like he has something about him and is really putting in a shift.

Straq is good technically. You have to be to keep posession when you get so many long balls played up to you. If you didn't, why have Everton had so many strikers who couldn't do it? His skills may be slightly different to a conventional striker but that doesn't mean he's not technically gifted.

I think people only class players as being technical if they're tricky, which is unfair to me as it's implying that players who have other skills to their game, aren't as good.

We've been crying out for a hold up player who can do the job properly for years. Our midfield takes ages to support attacks, partly due to how deep they defend and Straq holds on to the ball well enough to let the rest of our team catch up with play. I think his hold up play will help create chances for other players, just like it did with Gibson last night.

Have to disagree that his touch is 'quite poor'. Almost every long ball he got last night he managed to control and turn towards goal, something which Cahill struggles with on a weekly basis. He was being marked by two City players consistently and still managed to keep a hold of the ball and make some decent runs. Neville, for example has a poor touch.
