Even if you think the businesses “deserve everything they get” for not wanting to divert money from productive things to protect themselves from criminals, what about people who aren’t part of the company, getting hit hard by the impacts?

“We should be thanking them“ for causing so much disruption just because it wasn’t worse??? What about the hospital patients who can’t get treatment because of this? “Oh sorry it took you multiple hours to get seen for your cancer treatment but hey the good news is that some of the money that could have been spent on improving your cancer care will instead go to beefing up cybersecurity”.

The last bit is just a nonsense comparison - everyday multiple people are arrested for doing exactly those activities whereas, at least to date, it appears most of the ransomware criminals get away scot free.

Tbf to this weirdo, he has previously stated he doesn't care about

drug dealers, boiling oceans, peodos,China,Elon musk or any other fud!

so presumably delays in cancer treatment don't really register with him either

Iv heard bitcoin blamed for many things but delays in cancer treatment is a first!
On the plus side I assume the China controls bitcoin narrative is now in the bin as it is banned there!

Because with a lot of ransomware attacks originating from a country that doesn't give a toss (Russia), the most effective method of stopping them is likely to be to target the means of payment.

Do you honestly believe ransomware would stop if there was a ban on bitcoin, don't be so nieve, the hackers would just find another payment method,do you think there was no cyber crime before 2009!

I'm not sure accepting this as a "cost of business" is a good idea.
Im talking about engaging someone with someone who won’t acknowledge either the risks associated with an investment or the negative impact of an investment.

You have to think about it in exactly the way you think about kopites. Any kinda negative behaviour or negatives associated with the club whatsoever are glossed over or ignored. Same with proponents of crypto.

There’s no point engaging with a kopite.

So there's nothing behind the fact that all ransomware attacks today demand payment in a cryptocurrency? No connection at all? You should be aware that the security forces on both sides of the Atlantic are treating cybersecurity a lot more seriously now, and as it seems very unlikely that they will risk diplomatic events with China and Russia for harbouring cybercriminals by targeting them directly, then targeting their means of profiting from such attacks seems the natural way to go.

As has been said numerous times before there is downsides to all new tech.many governments and institutions wanted the internet banning in the 90s,it's still early days for btc and crypto.YNWA

Every time i see this I have loads of questions. Who are these households? Are these mean/median savings for US families? Why not show raw values--market movement or real estate dips may alone be the movement in most of these %s. The fact is, most US households don't have much liquid assets and only have wealth in real estate (homeowners) and investments (retirement accounts), both of which are essentially monthly expenses with long term payoffs.
