Likewise he made baines look better.

Injuries have took some gloss of the memory, but to say he was never class is a bit insulting, easily one of the best players we've had in the past decade or more with the likes of arteta and baines, even still when on the pitch now he looks one of our most assured players.

As for lack of final ball, not got the figures to hand but he was always up there in the assists for us, not to mention the amount of times he assisted the assister which would be through the roof
Class is something i reserve for players who are actually top, top players though and i dont think pienaar was ever that.

I think he put in some 'class' performances but i don't think he was ever a class player.

Also sagey mate we nearly always agree but his assists rate has always been very poor, usually 2-3 a season with similar amount of goals.

It's why people started going on about assisting the assister

48 assists in all comps for us and 24 goals aint too shabby

48 assists, and 24 goals in 233 appearances isn't a good return for me.

think he's been a top little player for us, but never been as class as people make out.

But we definitely need someone like him / to replace him.
While I agree, at a point in time he (usually) played the ball to Baines, who ended up getting the assist, nearly every single time, so he was involved in a lot of our attacks in a major way, if you get what I mean here.

Also very much so on the replacing bit... Makes me sad we have no one like him now really.

I do mate.

I think it's coming across like i never rated him at all, which would be a lie.

Think he was extremely useful and obviously was one half of the left sides in europe for many years.

But theres a reason he could never make the step up from us, or make it at another club.

Now though whenever i watch him it's sad, he really is for me a shadow of himself and he's just eating up massive wages.

We need to look to replace him, and stop trying in a silly attempt of saving money by just trying to make out he can still do what he used to be able to.

Nah I got you from the off really, just put that as a note more than anything!

Agreed again overall, like.

On his day. Unplayable. But whether those days are still ahead of him...a question only Mr. P can answer.

I will say it again. He's finished and we should get rid of him. Hope Ajax is interested in getting him.

He was a great player for us, but we're not in position to afford wages of ever injured players which can be spend elsewhere.

I'd say that's our biggest setback - we're not selling players at the right moment, we should anticipate these sort of things and get a lot more money for our 28-30 years old players.

Been a great player for us. I know it's sounds like making excuses with the whole assister of assists but it was very true. And his work rate was awesome. He'd literally run until he dropped.

Age and injuries have seriously took there till now tho. He's not much use to us IMO anymore.

I'm pretty sure that Piennar is regularly one of our top performers when it comes to stats and being fit. His relationship with Baines is quite simply magic, one of if not the best in the prem possibly Europe down that left hand side.

With regards to not being class is it once or twice that he was voted African player of the year? Such an accolade is reserved for the fee.

Pretty sure he 'was" past tense tho I fear mate.

Do you honestly think he can do the same now for any prolonged period?

He's been injured for pretty much 12 months now. I don't think it's possible at his age to get that same fitness and performance back IMO.

Great player. Martinez wouldn't be under the pressure he is if Pienaar had stayed fit. Watch a season review of 13/14 and look how many goals Pienaar was involved in.
