Steven Pienaar

Decent at the weekend, but IMO, Pienaar is becoming similar to Osman. A once very good player who just doesn't cut it regularly anymore. Both excellent servants for us in different ways but if we're to progress, we'll nee to improve upon them.

pienaar is twice the player osman is, he's not finished yet and should start against spurs

Agree totally. How can anyone speak of osman and pienaar in the same breath is behond me. Osman (who I don't dislike btw) is one of the luckiest players we'v had. Whenever his time has been up as a starter circumstances have conspired for him to get back that first 11 spot. Pienaar has been nailed on one of the first name's on the team sheet for 6 yrs or so. If he's not match fit it affects his work rate and touch. If match fit he very rarely let's us down!

I couldn't find another pienaar post so im just going to use this one, how do you all feel about pienaar going to ground very easily...? I hate to be negative towards an everton player but he just goes to ground a little to easy for my liking then has the same look on his face it frustrates me beyond belief

Personally think there's a difference between going to ground easily and diving/play acting.

The sad state of referring means if you want your foul you have to go down.

He needs to be dropped he never ever seems to look for a forward pass unless baines is about . Much rather see Mcgeady or mirallas there

looks a bit disinterested in quite a lot of the matches. used to be quite a hard worker until recently. actually stands in the spot when loses the ball now. think mc geady will take his place next season anyway. but a shame cause he was dead decent with bainsey couple yrs ago

Thought he played well yesterday. Far better option than McGeady. Noticeable how much more Baines got forward yestered with Pienaar in front of him.

I don't just watch Everton games you know. Anyone who thinks McGeady is anywhere near Pienaar's level really needs their head testing. McGeady may well be a useful player for us when he's fully fit but Pienaar for me any day.
This season Pienaar's scored 1 goal and got 2 assists. I reckon McGeady would have bettered that given the same amount of time as Pienaar on the pitch mate.

You maybe right and I'm sure McGeady will be a very good player for us but at the moment looks a bit unfit and a bit head down and run into a cul-de-sac type of player. Pienaar offers more the team at present and brings the best out of Baines.

McG is most likely the long-term replacement for GD being as he's likely to go back to Barca. We took a chance on a decent player going for next to nothing and you can't look an opportunity like that and pass it by. As far as Pienaar is concerned we have to be stronger around him on the pitch. He's going to take a few knocks because the oppos know he's a real threat with his passing - put him out the game and you remove about a third of our offensive threat. He gets sod-all protection from the refs it seems to me.
