Steve Sidwell Bid?

I think Sidwell was good at Reading, but he's just the latest in the string of players that sold-out for the big money at Chelsea (Scott Parker springs to mind in this instance) so I say [Poor language removed] him, I don't want him at the club, he'd command a wage that wasn't directly proportional to the talent he possesses, and we're not stupid enough to do that (except with vDM)

Erm, think I`m right here.Sidwell while at Arsenal knocked back a chance of signing a new contract to sign for Reading stating `he didnt want to be one of those players to sit in the reserves picking up a huge wage`.Not really the actions of a money grabber.
If its on loan then yeah lets have a good look at him

I think he genuinely saw a chance to improve as a player by going to Chelsea. The players he was going to play with are a little more advanced than Harper. The manager was Mourinho - I think if Chelsea come knocking and you play for a small club, then you would be daft to not take that opportunity.

What kind of wages is he demanding? Doesn't he make 60K/week at Chelsea? That's a shitload of money to pay for a player who might not crack the starting 11. Was very good at Reading, crap at Chelsea not sure which one would show up.

If he's on 60k a week then forget it. He'd have to take a pay cut to come here.

But I like the idea of having him on loan for the 2nd half of the season, especially if we lose Faddy and Gravesen.

Remember...squad depth is key this year more than ever.

And SWP is the poster boy for making a change for financial reasons only to be frozen out of the first team. Give the guy credit though. He's stayed and now he's starting to pay dividends to Chelsea.

He'll probably end up at West Ham, and follow in the lines of other mediocre players who go to Chelsea, turn out not to be good enough, then go to a mediocre club getting ludicrous wages because they were previously at Chelsea. :dodgy:

I think Reading went as high as 40K/week to keep him. Even that might be a little high. Isnt that what Arteta/Cahill make?

I'd like him here, he would be a very good addition to the squad.

He will need to battle for a first team place though.

Never really been bowled over by Sidwell but would have taken him on a free in the summer. I always kind of thought of him as Reading's Jags and we have one of them already!

Would rather see Barton (I know) or Diarra (Possible Pompey).

If we got him on loan, I would be made up. Has a good engine and dont care that he left for Chelsea after money. Neither would anyone else he does the business in our midfield.

Maybe Moyes is looking at him as a Carsley replacement.

True mate if he comes in and hes awsome it wont matter, we seem to have been linked with him a lot in the past too! Id put him in the Sean Davies, Jason Koumas, David Nugent link frequencey category!

i think we need a holding midfielder, and i think sidwell would do well at everton, but i have 2 major problems.
1. is he really a defensive midfielder, can he fill in for cars when he needs a rest.
2. i doubt we would be able to get him if we wanted to make it permanent, which would be pretty dissapointing if he was to do really well.
on the first point i have'nt seen heaps of him am i wrong or is he more of a box to box player???
