Steve Sidwell Bid?

I think most players in our team would leave for chelsea at the minute?
Even if we're knocking on the top fours door, it's just the way the game is these days.
You can't not show an interest in players because of that type of move.
Wouldn't you have Sean Wright Phillips?
Obviously money plays a big part in the move, but players like Sidwell may look at the examples such as Lampard and Cole, who made the step up from mid table football to champions league football.

I don't know if he is a good enough long term replacement for Carsley meself but I reckon a loan deal (if Maddog goes) would be a good idea.

I don't think any of our players would leave for Chelsea, why do you say that? Its not the way the game is, there are a few who follow their noses, but most of them do it and get a game. There are only a few like Scott Parker (who quickly rectified his error). SWP is performing now.

Lampard and Joe Cole were/are both exceptional players and have been instrumental in Chelsea's success.

I reckon quite a few would join chelsea if we don't make the step up to champions league level pretty sharpish. I think Lescott, Arteta, Yobo, Yakubu would all consider a move if our progress halted. Yakubu left Boro for us for that very reason as he left Portsmouth before that.

Yeah but Lampard and Cole wern't established exceptional players when they first left West Ham. They took the jump from big fish in small ponds and succeded. Parker, Sidwell, Glen Johnson etc. Didn't. I don't think you can fault them for trying.

Sean Wright Phillips still isn't Chelsea's first choice though. His promary job is still that of a benchwarmer. I wouldn't say that he's greedy and overly ambitious though for wanting to go there in the first place and now staying there to prove himself. Even more I wouldn't not sign him because he struggles to get into the Chelsea first team every week.

Not sure I entirely agree. Both Yobo and Arteta have had chances to move on to bigger things, but they haven't. I don't think there is pressure to get Top 4 just yet.

Yeah well not right away like. Maybe i've got a complex because all ive seen my whole is our best player leave!
Thing with Arteta is that issue of the spanish national team. A player of his skill must be desperate to platy in the world cup

Yeah but surely recent history has convinced you that we are no longer a selling club. Who was the last best player to leave? And the ones before them?

Rooney, Jeffers, Ferguson, Barmby.
Its not always a case of having to sell, sometimes some players want to go.

Rooney was still young and raw. He hasn't exactly took off as a superstar. His International record is very flawed since he left.

Less said about Jeffers the better.

Ferguson, well we played better football when Ferguson was not at Everton. That is a fact.

Barmby? Had potential but never fulfilled it.

Any more?

Speed, I will give you that.
Ball - well he hasn't fulfilled his potential, neither has Dacourt.

Kanchelskis has proven to be a troublesome player and Gravesen is not that good.

Sorry mate. :)

No but the point is that most people at the time didn't regard any of these sales as positive for everton. We can look back with hindsight and say that sellling Rooney, Ball, Jeffers etc. were good moves but I think most fans at the time were disapointed and did feel as though we had to sell our best players.
