Just a quick but truly shocking update. My mate's daughters didn't go to the event but his brothers daughters did.

Both his kids were involved. One is in a very bad way stabbed 8 times , 6 in the back one in the arm and one in the stomach. She was in surgery for 6 hours yesterday. His other daughter was stabbed once in the back and in the arm but should be ok.

I've only met his brother/ the dad once but he used to play TT for us before my time at the club.

The grandfather also plays and is a very good friend.

This is devastating.

Yeah. He is out of his depth. He needs to improve, fast. I also think his speech will inflame things. If he was trying to pour oil on troubled waters he has made things worse. He couldn't even be bothered to talk to Southport residents either. Flowers for a photo opp and away. I am no fan of Blair, but when he faced those situations he talked to people.

I just don't think Starmer has the emotional intelligence or nous to lead a country. His CPS wa shambolic. Ask Thornberry, she was scathing, which is probably why he did not take her into Government. A thin-skinned man.

Just catching up with this thread from overnight. Few things I've learned:

1) white males are dreadful. In general.
2) generalising is bad
3) People get very upset by sarcastic tweets on twitter
4) Keir Starmer doesn't know what he's doing and has practically given carte blanche for more riots
5) Pete is probably right (for once)

I've read similar arguments before. Slavoj Zizek wrote a book called 'Violence' about 20 years ago.

Amongst the many things he examines is disorder in the Parisian suburbs. Usually ethnic minority disenfranchised youth. Difference us they destroyed their own neighbourhoods in the act of 'look at us'.

I rather suspect a more appropriate Zizekian analysis here would come from 'Tarrying with the Negative' and his writings on ethnic/nationalist violence.
