Match Thread Spurs V Everton - 24th May 4pm

For goodness sake, it’s public record:

“Kyle Macaulay has been reunited with Graham Potter after being appointed as the new Head of Recruitment at West Ham.

“Meanwhile, Technical Director Tim Steidten is set to leave the club. The German joined in July 2023 and had overall responsibility for scouting and recruitment. He had previously been ‘Manager Sport’ at Bayer Leverkusen.

“Potter refused to be drawn on Steidten’s position, saying: “No, no, nothing to report for me. We have had a full week’s training, so again my focus has been on the players and the staff here. We are working with the club and doing our best to help the club improve, that’s all I can say.”

“West Ham have not had a Head of Recruitment since Rob Newman left the club at the end of last season, along with David Moyes and his backroom staff.”

And Moyes brought his guy in and, according to you, still didn't sign the players, so?

He has struggled to get a game for the more than likely relegated W Ham so lets have a 33 year old reject - our sights should be higher than him FGS -
His problem is he lacks pace. But he has amazing levels of stamina and is good at scoring goals. But I agree in the sense that he’s not someone I’d like to see as a starting midfielder. His passing is very limited.

Mind you, if Gana is leaving he would be a decent squad player with experience.

Try reading and comprehending what I actually said.
Ooohhh, snippy. I reckon I read it right. You basically have four posts
1. Moyes got his tactics and team selections bang on, the players on the pitch let him down
2. Moyes signs all the good players, shadowy back room characters sign the bad ones
3. Moyes is brilliant, here are the stats to prove it (then show stats that very much don't prove it)
4. Bad players and bad managers at other clubs are actually very good and Moyes can't possibly be expected to beat them

This chain was option 2

You do occasionally say that managers that are proposed as alternatives to Moyes are rubbish flavour of the month types or people who wouldn't even look at Everton. Weirdly, sometimes you volte face and say that the rubbish flavour of the month managers you described earlier in the season are now too good for us and wouldn't come (e.g. Glasner)

My theory. You love Moyes and are ambivalent about Everton.

Is that you Dave - we need two full backs ....
I think Myko is someone we can rely on in a push but we definitely need a new right back. I’d actually say we also need a new centre half, central midfielder and striker. If N’Diaye goes we need a new right winger as well, if we are keeping Grealish.

If West Ham go down I think Wan Bissaka, Bowen and Soucek would be worth considering. Soucek for me would be a squad filler for Gana if he decides to leave. Wan Bissaka is actually a phenomenal defensive right back, you just need to use him like they did at Palace and not expect him to be an overlapping attacking player.

The players Moyes and his recruiters signed in their big summer window were not on the whole successful, for a variety of reasons. Prior to that they had quite a good record in the market. Their worst signing before that was Vlasic, but he was a last minute buy as Lingard had been expected to move. Soucek, Bowen, Coufal, Zouma, Dawson and Lingard had all been very succesful signings.

His final summer window was good too, with Alvarez, JWP and Kudus all proving to be good signings.

No manager gets all their selections correct. And Moyes is not “brilliant,” but he has a specific skill set that makes him very good for a non-elite Premier League club. All I argue is he’s one of the best to lay foundations for progress in the future.

Davey's real squad is about 13 players. He cant count beyond that.
