that was not spitting AT someone -
spitting as a gesture of frustration has certainly become part of the game if you look at the Fellaini's and the Roony's of today -
where do you draw the line ?give all spitters red cards ?surely not -
it should be treated the same as hitting - mere punching in the air is never punished - only if it was directed at someone with the intention of hitting him is it punished -
i watched the game and numerous replays and i am convinced that was no intentional spit at the body of Walker-
some of the commentators after the game also said that it should not have been red card -
Walker made a big show of it and that caused the red card - the ref was quite far away -
Walker was booed off the pitch before the end of the game by the WestBrom supporters -
i regret that spitting on the pitch has become acceptable behaviour AND i agree that spitting directly at someone should be a red card but Popov got a raw deal and Spurs got the game on a plate

Mere punching of the air is never punished ? So you think if a player gets up after a challenge and punches out at someone but doesn't hit them he won't get sent off ? I think I he will and I also think however ridiculous it is the legal definition of assault would be covered by that as well.

You think the player got a rough deal with the red whereas the ref, the players manager , club and it seems the bloke himself all think it was worthy of a red.

For me I'm not convinced that he was aiming to hit walker but he clearly spat in his general direction which I think means a red is inevitable.

Doesnt matter if he "meant" it.

Just have some class and dont put yourself in a situation where the Ref (Clattenburg or other) have to make a decision.
