Glad Nichols has gone, Tissier was due to his recent Covid and anti BLM twitter activity I reckon and I dont actually mind Thompson but im delighted he hasnt been able to revel in their win.

I think whoever replaces them on the Sky Sports panel, regardles of whether its a POC or a female, they have to be quick witted and be able to banter, as thats what people watch for.

Very bizarre this, I don't follow the HLTCO account but some of the stuff that gets retweeted he seems like a pretty sound lad, Apparently it's causing murder all on twitter.

Yeah was watching the comments from all the people supporting HLTCO yesterday and all comments that were saying he has said no such thing and HLTCO is a big believer in calling them out, with even the Like's of Ian Wright backing him, I think that Kav has been caught out by a copy cat twitter name if what was said was even said at all, no surprise you get the like's of the yellow Tie Man backing Kav

Got caught out by “revealing” that Everton “had made an increased bid of £50m plus Tosun and McCarthy for Zaha. Everton then denied this and he was forced to make a stumbling “clarification” on the next interminable sky transfer blabber in which he still defended his “sources”. He has now had to admit that these were none other than Zaha’s advisors who were just using him to keep the story live. He was spouting wham, got caught out and his stumbling clarification is doing the rounds again (I saw it somewhere on GoT the other day) and so he is trying to discredit an otherwise sound twitter account. Twerp.

Seems Jeff Stelling is now considering his options?

Im not fussed about the panel, but IMO he's the linchpin of that program. I wonder if ITV or even Channel 4 could pick him and the format up?

Yep,seen little bits, think hes just gutted about what they did, and probably wondering if he can get the banter etc with the new people, Probably hard enough doing the 6 hour sat show and other bits midweek with people you work with all the time, never mind people that he may get that have not been on

Danny Higgenbotham, Liam Rosenior, Micah Richards are the best pundits out there.
Funnilly enough they got rid of there best anchor in Scott Minto
Talking of anchors, Colin Murray is probably the best out there, despite being a red hes got a grounding about him that makes you listen

Odds on a woman being a permanent panel member every week.
From the admittedly little I've seen of women pundits they nearly always outshine their male counterparts. People like Sue Smith and Alex Scott come across as pundits who actually watched the players and teams and then formed their opinions based on current observations.

The likes of Le Tis, Merse and others just recycle lazy narratives and describe teams and players as what they're generally known for rather than what was actually happening at the current time.

He started with the format (him anchoring in the studio and reporters at the grounds) on Radio London in the early 80’s. Reporter at every London team’s game. Good balance of information & entertainment given what the alternatives were in those days.

Pundits for me should have played at the very highest level as a minimum - preferably in recent years.

They also should be clear and easy to understand.

Their gender, sex, nationality, race etc shouldn't come into it.

Don't agree with the top level thing at all. You don't need to have played top level to analyse and explain a match. There's a 1001 lower league coaches who have a better grasp on the tactical side of the game and what players are doing than most internationals.

The sentiment that top flight footballers understand the game better than anyone else is spouted most often by former internationals who as pundits have nothing factual to back up their opinions with.

Great players don't always make great managers - or even semi-competent managers. They're different jobs and it's the same for punditry.

Colin Murray oh god no.
Pat Nevin used to slaughter him when he did something on the BBC cant recall what it was. The disdain was visible. Nevin can be a bit sour at times but Murray deserves it.

Couldn’t agree more, if you have a good voice, does that mean you know more about the music business than people who have a crap voice?

There's no certainties in life.

Experience is vital in any walk of life- we're paying Carlo Ancelotti millions because of that experience when there's a chance some fella in Liverpool knows loads about the game.

As I've already said in this thread....

Well, John Motson is a commentator not a pundit and I note you've said they're all the same in subsequent replies but I think you miss the very clear differences in each role. Moton's background through journalism gave him his opportunity.

There's no shortage of professionals who have played at the very highest level - broadcasters can ensure from all them they pick people with the other credentials mentioned.

For me, pundits that have played at the top have an edge - to use a crude example, I'm much more interested in reading Carlo Ancelotti's book than I ever would be Marco Silva just because of the experiences I know Ancelotti has had.

Top flight experience doesn't translate to being a good pundit, Thierry Henry was in my opinion terrible.

There's a balance, but I think gender, sex, nationality, race etc are all ridiculous ways to assess someones suitability for any role.
