We lack creativity in abundance, that has been clear all season. With the exception of Steven Pienaar we have a team that lacks invention, creativity and to be honest, bottle. And I don't mean putting there foot in and getting stuck in, I mean getting there foot on the ball, trying to be creative and having a go.

Tony Hibbert sums that up for me, he's always passing on responsibility and is unwilling to even try something different. And as you said we play 4-5-1, in this system you need your fullbacks to attack. It's not like we have pacy, out and out wingers, we play with centre midfielders outwide. These players need support, an outlet on the overlap. Pienaar gets it with Baines, the same can not be said of anyone who plays ahead of Hibbert.

He's one of the most limited footballers in the Premier League and he's far from the solid defender he's made out to be. And it's been clear for a good few years now, he's not good enough to be commanding a regular place in the side.

It's time for a change and I don't really care if it's Phil Neville, Lucas Neill or Seamus Coleman, all three of them offer far more (as an all round package) than Tony Hibbert. It's likely that anyone who plays right back will have a tough game at Arsenal, that's expected, but if we have any ambition in terms of progression then we've got to get away from this hit and hope mentality, we need proper footballers, players with composure.

I'd much rather see us have a go and get beaten 3-0 than see us sit back for 90 minutes, constantly hoof the ball, show no composure whatsoever and end up with a lucky 1-0 defeat.

The best form of defence is attack, retaining possession and stopping Arsenal from dominating. All the top teams do it, and that's what we should be aiming for. We might not do it, but I can take far more positives from that than a 1-0 loss where we are in our own half for most of the game.

Well said mate, this is exactly how I feel and I needed some back-up from you guys or else it would become my own opinion only. (y)

Could we keep it down to a few sentences per post. Thank you.

Oh yes, i'd like to see coleman more, but maybe not against arsenal.

there you go, that's not so difficult

It has turn into a debate, but I think we have pretty much said everything we want to say on this topic, until after the Arsenal match, so we try to keep it down as short as possible in the mean time.

Keeping this short not only for BLS but also because we are all broadly agreeing on the whole thing.

We all think Coleman will be better than Hibbert who is a limited footballer. We all know we need to be moving on from players of Tony's standard if we hope to progress further and maintain a challenge for top 4. I don't know why people keep on repeating it to back up their statements, it's the most obvious thing to any Evertonian.

However we are making very quick judgements based on a couple of Europa games against poor opposition and 70 minutes against Spurs where people want to think he had Lennon in his pocket but he was really against a Championship standard player in Gareth Bale.

I hope most wouldn't judge a player negatively on such little playing time but we also shouldn't get carried away in saying Coleman will be a magic plaster that will fix all our creative problems, banish hoofball from Goodison Park and find a cure for cancer while doing keepie uppies around Arshavin.

I agree, but only if you promise to say Hibbert 100 times with plenty of kisses. xxxxxx

I'm with you BLS, I thought Leo Tolstoy had started posting.

I'd give Seamus a go, agree with Toccy though, change is needed regardless of who.

I almost exactly agree with that.

He could be very good, but we havn't really seen enough of him to judge (10+ appearances should be ok), and arsenal isn't the right game to throw him in to.

Posibly not but what was wrong with Brum and Carslie, he may have been ready for Arsenal if he had been given his hard earned place?

Precisely! If we don't play him, the same old lads will keep saying he's not ready when we play the rest of the top 4.
When you are in the process of learning, the last thing you need to do is to be afraid of failure.

With all due respect, Arshavin is in a different league to the guy from Carlisle, or even Kranjcar.

Part of me wants to see him play, and do well. But if it doesn't pay off, the consequences could be disastrous
