Sir Landon Of Donovan

Not trying to pick a fight but I think maybe you've convinced yourself of something despite the evidence to the contrary. He blew by Insua and delivered a dangerous cross to the back post against Liverpool for example.

I cant help what you think mate, its just my opinion. I think we have been without pace and width for so long people are instantly smitten by Landon who i have said is a very usefull player.

Thought Insua (who actually was very impressive) played him well to be honest, he was no worse then the majority of the team.

Hes a decent player, im not saying hes not i just think we need a different type of player.

I've seen a fair bit of him for the US over time and he has been a great counter attacker. I just don't belive we have used him effectively this way yet...

Look at this for an example of his counter attacking abilities, ok he doesn't get the pass but the run is top drawer...

I'd love us to keep him. A good player, relatively unique in our squad who has settled quickly - but at 27 he's not worth big bucks. If I was Moyes I wouldn't want to go far north of £6m.

If you want to see Landon Donovan's counter-attacking ability, then this link about sums it up.

And this Brazil team was no slouch, it had Kaka, Robinho, Lucio, Dani Alves etc...

Sorry cannot post the actual URL because I would need 10 posts to do that. Copy & paste into your browser.

Kaka gives chase but cannot keep up. Donovan blows past the other defender plays the ball perfectly to open space, a crisp break to the ball (turns one defender around), and uses a left-footed shot between 2 defenders to put the ball past the off balance keeper.

That goal was class.

Here is another from the 2002 World Cup quarter finals against Germany. Although, Landon did not score, he was awfully dangerous.

What do you think the chances are of Donovan staying?

I'm just curious what everyone thinks are the odds of Donovan staying past the 10 weeks. There's been some discussion but I would say at this point its probably 50/50.

I can see good reasons why he could go and good reasons why he'd return to the Galaxy. I think no matter what he's proven he can play in the EPL and he will return long-term by next fall at the latest.

Here's why I think he still could return to the Galaxy. It's not clear what the transfer fee would be and if its in excess of $10 million then it could be too steep for Everton. Also, MLS would likely want to keep Donovan up until the World Cup and allow him a farewell tour in the first few months of the season.

This would also help keep interest in the league as I bet there would be a decent amount of Everton fans who would follow the Galaxy especially if they knew he was going to return for the 2010-11 season.

Overall, it would be best for Donovan to stay because he's getting to play against world class competition and it will only help him and the USA in the World Cup. What does everyone else think? What are your odds of him staying or returning to MLS?

well he wants to stay. He said in an interview couple of weeks back that it might be too hard for him to leave if he turns out to really feel at home. Plus if he goes back to Galaxy then he will have completely WASTED his career.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade , but I believe it's unlikely . UP TO NOW .

It was a great goal against Brazil but their not great at the back to be fair these days, as recent form suggests, with a defensive stratagey based on the princiaple if you score two we will score three. Secondly i know people have watched him for a long time and he has been the star of the show in certain context. His star status is based in the main against teams from the MLS and internationals against the likes of Cuba, Honduras, Panama etc. Its important we assess Landon in a realistic context before we throw around terms like World Class. He is proving to be a good Prem player with ability, what he needs to develop now is consistencey and an ability to effect a game more frequently.

Like i say hes a good player 1 goal and two assists prove he is a usefull player - not what i think we need - in a player who can counter (like Landon ) but its not all about pace as im sure everyone here knows.

Frankly i want a winger who cobines pace, inciceveness, can beat a man, go to the by line, deliver and come inside if needs be. Nzogbia is one player who pocesses these attributes i can think of a few. He does offer balance an outlet, pace and has a good deleviery i wouldnt mind him in the squad but llike i say if it was a choice i would go for someone else.

Think the MLS will want top dollar to.

i doubt that tbh mate. we might look out for him on youtube but we don't tend to follow other teams.they have plenty of galaxy shirts over here in a certain sports shop but they all have beckham on them.

from what i've seen so far i like him, about time we had some pace although i know he offers much more, but at the moment it's the pace that's standing out.
is it set in stone that he has to return ? i.e. contractually, cos he would be far better off over here before the world cup,
i guess if we want him we will have to show him how much and make him fall in love with the place, cos if the money men get involved after the w.c. then we won't get him back.
