Sir Landon Of Donovan

Having lived in florida a few years I watched the MLS and it's a shockingly poor standard of football and passion, after playing in such a high standard league and playing in such a good team and in front of us He will think twice about going back to the Galaxy, he even said he would consider joining us

"Shockingly poor?"

You need to get out more mate. Lets make sure we're compaing apples to apples here. If you're comparing MLS to England, Spain, Germany, etc...well then I guess the MLS "could" be shockingly poor in comparison to the top leagues in the world. But the top teams in MLS could easily run with your top teams in Holland, Belgium, etc.... That and I'm guessing as alluded to above, you were stuck watching the Mutiny or Fusion. The league has improved by leaps and bounds since those days.

agreed, I think we need to see Donovan perform on a consistent basis before deciding whether he's worth the fee the MLS would ask.

He's done the business and has shown that he's worth a bid. An educated guess would be 10MM USD which is around 6MM GBP.

That should be enough to get him here permanently. Whether Moyes and Kenwright would want him permanently is an entirely different matter.

Absolutely agree. He may not be worth as much to Everton in the end as he is to MLS. He came back well from a mediocre performance in the FA Cup tie. Now we'll see how he does after an under par performance on two days rest.

The EPL isn't just about raising your game occasionally. It is about being at top quality on short rest. He isn't completely fit yet, so there are a lot of questions still to be answered in my mind.

The money being asked will probably make it impossible for him to be a squad player, and a loan extension is not part of his agreement with MLS, so it will have to be a sale.

We'll see... but I think you will be impressed with Donvan's workrate once he gets his fitness... When he has his fitness, he's one of the hardest working players we have (or ever have had) on the US squad... He runs all over the place helping out but isn't a headless chicken about it... His positioning is usually spot on... Both he and Dempsey are runners but Dempsey can be a bit more headless at times... over 11,500m run in the US v. Brasil Confed Cup final game... which is impressive... I cannot post the clickable link for the heatmap since I'm new, but if you paste this, it should work...

We'll see if he can bring it every game once he is up to fitness, but he's in the prime of his career, so I don't see why not...

Welcome mate.

If I ever get over to whereever in the States you live you owe me one then.(y)

Or might make it to see TBM who lives in Dolly Parton land.

Sorry. That's 2k miles away. Would have to be Sacramento or LA, depending on what part of the year it is, so even meeting half way isn't an option. But if you ever get to the left coast, let me know. (y)

Edit: Of course I might have to come to Merseyside for mine if he's sold. (y)

Some how I do not think he will be joining us full time, just a hunch thats all. Cannot see MLS letting a money spinner leave.

My suspicion would be a to return to the States for the run up to the WC. It is much more convenient to move to the next practice field at Victoria Street to join your National Team mates, and I think he knows this is his most important Championships.

However, we might both be able to call our in our pledge if he does well at the WC and Everton buys him outright afterward. I can see him joining either in August or Janauary next. But I think he'll have to do well at the WC for Moyes to consider an outright purchase.

I do think that LD will be most likely to go where he is wanted. He isn't a glory seeker like Grumpy. He truly wants to belong to something special. That's why he wanted to be at the Galaxy, only to have AEG screw it up for a few years. I would not be surprised to see him in Toffee blue on a more permanent basis at some point.

The new Rumor is that if he is signed at a lower price Everton will also agree to do there preseason in the USA against MLS teams as a way to recoup some transfer fees for a set number of years. Remember MLS owns all the teams and gets a share most of the revenue from games, or it could be part of a deal with SUM (soccer united Marketing) which is the marketing arm of MLS.

I do think it's unfair to compare MLS to the Premiere league teams They do not have to travel as far in England as you do in the USA, one game could take you to the HEAT of Texas then to the thin air of Denver. You should try playing in 100+ temps (40 C) with humidity at 100%, your not going to get great football in that weather.

I should also point out it was Mcbride's wife who chose Fulham she wanted to live in London and that is common knowledge.

I was wondering since I am new here what is the correct name for the team that lives in Everton's shadow?

Good points on the large variety in playing atmospheres in the US.

And 'that' team would be know as the Kopites, gob-shites, or simply red [Poor language removed].

*Edit* now here is a stretch, but it works......Currently Unsuccessful Nobodies in Transition

LD in EPL is worth more in ads/promos than LD in MLS. Works both ways well I think. Read between the lines. BTW do not see him jumping. We'll see how it plays out, but US soccer fans do not want him back to play MSL..

I am a Galaxy fan and a US Nats fan and I would rather be able to see him play live, so not all US Soccer fans would like him to stay. In my mind LD has nothing to prove that he can't prove while on loan. To some he seems to have already proven that he can play at the EPL level (I still have some unanswered questions about that.)

The G's, and their skipper, have unfinished business, a loss in the MLS Cup final and a chance to play into the World Club Championships, not something that will happen at Everton.

That said, I would not be surprised if he makes a move after the WC. As a Galaxy fan I will no longer be as interested. As a US Nats fan I will follow him about like I do Dempsey, Bradley, Goodsen, Spector, Howard, Edu, Davies, Feilhaber, etc.
