Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'm still not sure on LD yeah he's been brilliant, but he hasn't gone to Wolves on a wednesday evening when its snowing yet. He's been up for 2 big games. Lets see what he like when we play a smaller side away from home.

Some kind words for you all. Not sure how it was missed. I wanted to start a new thread with this in fear of it getting buried here but decided we had enough LD threads.b)

"I've spent the day resting and recovering from an incredible game last night. That was in the top 5 of the most memorable games in my career. Thank you so much to all the Everton fans for making me feel right at home!"

I posted it on the previous page mate (y)

He does seem to be enjoying himself though eh!

My mistake then, sorry.

By saying "That was in the top 5 of most memorable games in my career" is saying a lot (he has been in some big games). That's all about the fans that is.

One other talking point I left out of my windbag of a post.
The MLS is currently in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement with the players union. There is talk of a lockout by the union. If this happens MLS would shut down until it is figured out. At that point I would think that the MLS would be more likely to extend and offer more players on loan and or transfer.

He said on the OS, he might consider staying.

“I’ve been made to feel so welcome and when you’re welcome like that you don’t want to let anyone down. The future is out of my control. I want to enjoy this experience," Donovan said.

“But who knows what will happen in the future. Football’s funny and you never know what could happen.

“If I look back after 10 weeks and say I really want to stay then maybe I can make that happen. If I say okay, it was good, but I’m ready to go then I can go, but for now I’m taking it week by week.”

I think he's likeing it.....and would stay the rest of the season if everyone agrees to it.

Sky Sports | Football | Transfer Centre | Possible Deal | Donovan open to longer stay

Landon Donovan has admitted there is a chance he could extend his stay at Everton if all parties are in agreement.
The USA international has linked up with the Toffees on a 10-week loan spell and is due to return to parent club Los Angeles Galaxy in mid-March.
He has made a fine start to his Premier League career, catching the eye in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal and 2-0 victory over Manchester City.
Donovan has enjoyed his time in England far more than an unfulfilling stint with Bayern Munich last season and would be open to a longer deal.
"I've been made to feel so welcome and when you're welcome like that you don't want to let anyone down. It's a sharp contrast to how I felt last year when I was at Munich," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"It's a little more individual and selfish there. Here they make you feel part of a family and you keep going because you don't want to let anyone down.
"The future is out of my control. I want to enjoy this experience. That means I show up for training and I'm ready. I show up for the game and I'm ready.
"But who knows what will happen in the future. Football's funny and you never know what could happen.
"If I look back after 10 weeks and say I really want to stay then maybe I can make that happen. If I say OK it was good, but I'm ready to go then I can go, but for now I'm taking it week by week."
Atmosphere

Saturday's clash with City was Donovan's home debut and he admits it was a joy to play in front of the Goodison Park crowd.
"The atmosphere completely surpassed what I thought," he added. "I guessed if we scored a few goals or were winning they'd be loud, but it was from minute one. They really push you on.
"At points you get a bit tired but then you hear them and it helps them keep going.
"There are little parts that are still frustrating me and only coming back, my touch and in front of goal. The first two weeks I've felt better and sharper every day and I know there's more to me."
The versatile Donovan has been impressed by the performances of his team-mates, particularly midfield pair Steven Pienaar and Marouane Fellaini.
"I'm enjoying playing right wing. It's an easy job on the right wing when Phil Neville is behind you. My ears are getting a little bit worn out but I love it," he said.
"Steven Pienaar was fantastic in the centre of midfield. Tim Howard had said he might play there against Man City and I wondered if he could but my question got answered. He was fantastic in there.
"Not only do him and Marouane Fellaini run, compete and look good on the ball. What people don't see is how much they lead and keep talking."

Top four

Everton have risen into the top half of the table on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run and Donovan has already seen enough to tip David Moyes' side as possible UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
"When I was younger it was about me doing well. Me scoring, and me being the centre of things - but now I get joy out of winning," he said.
"When you play like we did against Manchester City and feel part of something bigger it's so much fun.
"I haven't been here that long but the way we've played at the Emirates and then against City - let's be honest we should have won there.
"The beauty is that they're not two fluke performances. I can imagine if this team if healthy for a good season would be a good contender for the top four."

I've been browsing this thread and have a few thoughts:

1. The Donovan/Beckham thing was born more of what happened over the season than what happened with the Milan loan. The Milan thing was just the last straw. Both players handled it poorly and it's over now.

2. I don't think Donovan would sign an MLS contract without a release clause. Everyone knows how important he is to the league.

3. I think you can forget about Donovan signing for anyone other than Everton if they make an offer. This is a guy who values a comfortable living (not just money) more than anything else. It's the main reason he stayed in LA all this time. If he feels welcome, he will repay that commitment.

4. I think for this club he's best on the right, but he is probably better as a second striker or a left sided MF. His direct running really suits the center of the pitch. He has played a lot of left MF for the Nats over the past few months as others have been injured and/or fell out of form, and he has been great there. It really opens him up to use his dominant foot and like Clint Dempsey for Fulham, he tends to drift to the middle of the pitch while playing there, which again is where he is most effective.

5. His touch is off and he as much as admitted so after this match. I think he has a lot more to offer with the ball. I don't really think it's the pace of the league, just a matter of rust.

6. It's been enjoyable following Everton more and more. I seemed to lose interest once Arteta started his seemingly never-ending stint on the injury list. Being here in America it's tough to really identify with a club, it's something you must grow up with I think.

I am originally from Pittsburgh and am a huge Steelers fan (American Football). I see many of the same attributes that make the Steelers and Everton successful. A commitment to stability, a gift of finding undervalued players, and a real team/organization atmosphere. It's fun to watch, I'm not one to jump on a bandwagon and start rooting for a huge revenue club just to see them win and feel good all the time. I like struggle, I enjoy rooting for the underdog, it makes the successes that much sweeter.

Latest from bookface...

Good evening from a slightly warmer England! I've spent the day resting and recovering from an incredible game last night. That was in the top 5 of the most memorable games in my career. Thank you so much to all the Everton fans for making me feel right at home! It's been nice to enjoy the victory today but tomorrow we start preparing for Birmingham in the FA Cup. Goodnight!

The lad talks the talk, what can I say, sign him up Davey.

I support the Steelers too, the missus and the in-laws are all from the 'Burgh so I didn't have much choice :). I'd agree with the similarities between Steelers and Everton.
Except the steelers really sucked this season :@

Nice posts above.

And being here in Houston, I'm surrounded by Dallas Cowboys fans which is a chore to deal with.

I love winding them up though when I ask them how THEY got to be called "America's Team."

I tell them that if anybody should have been called America's Team, it should have been the Steelers teams of the 70's.

1) Four Super Bowl Championships
2) Smashmouth football
3) Supported by the working man and not the guy in the corporate boxes.
4) Hall of Famers on both sides of the ball.

They really don't have an answer for that one. :D

Donovan and Becks are on good terms now and Becks texted Donovan saying Everton would be a good spot for his loan. Like I said before, I think there's better than a 60% chance right now that the deal is made permanent.

Hey all this my first post here, I'm an American and just wanted to say thanks so much for keeping Donovan's confidence up with you support, hopefully he'll keep doing well.

I just wanted to mention-I dunno if this has been covered because I've only read the first 5 pages of this thread- but Donovan just signed a $9 million deal with the MLS but the rumor over here in the states is that he has a buy-out clause in his contract that if the amount is met the MLS has to let him go, I'd imagine this is anywhere from $10-15 or 6-9 mil pounds. If Everton have the money I'm postive Donovan would want to stay in the EPL

Don't want to get too far off topic, but...

Cowboys fans can call themselves whatever they want, they don't have the following outside of Dallas that Pittsburgh enjoys. There is a large contingent of Steeler fans at every single road game, I don't think you can say the same of the Cowboys. Although both teams have a large following from the 70s, before cable TV was invented these were the two teams on television every week.

Saturday was the most fun I've had watching Everton in a while. They had become quite boring. Watching Fellaini and Pienaar boss the midfield was excellent. While everyone is rightly drooling over Fellaini, Pienaar's direct passing was quite excellent.

It'll be interesting to see what he's like against lesser sides who sit back and cut off his space. I think that will be us more of an idea of what he's about, how productive he is as a wide player in different areas.

Up to now he's shown some promising things but there's a long way to go. He could be potentially involved in around 14-15 more games if everything goes well, lots of time to prove himself to get to a better fitness level.
