Sir Landon Of Donovan

Wins > wages/fees.

A top 4 finish, european football or a cup win...all would pay "fees" that we would miss out on later with a resale value.

It only takes 1 year on top to change the entire course of this club.
Sign him and win. It is very simple.

I've already said the Europa league is a poison chalice financially and if you think we can actually finish in the top 4 even with LD then you're beyond optimistic. Would a good cup run pay for a £5m transfer (or whatever LD would cost)?

So no, it isn't very simple. Maybe on Football Manager, but in the premier league these days when teams around us continue to spend crazy amounts for success, I doubt that we can make the step up with a couple of signings.

As much as I like Donovan, I personally would rather we invested money in a younger player. At 30, he might only be able to give us a couple of seasons before we need to replace him. Look at Cahill - the season before last he played some of his best football, and scored a lot of goals. Despite that, it was clear last season that he was past it.

I know the point has been made before, but players like Howard, Neville, Distin, Hibbert, Osman, and Pienaar are all already over 30 and only have a few seasons left, probably at a lower standard than they've achieved for us in the past. I'm really worried about the prospect of having to replace every one of those players in the near future. It's clear that we don't have a lot of money, so any that we spend has to be an investment to some extent.

Donovan has been great for us, but I wouldn't want to see us spend more than a couple of million on him this summer.

I have a feeling we'll actively pursue the permanent signing of Donovan this week before the MLS deadline and sign him by Friday, bookmark this if it's felt necessary.

I personally think Landon Donovan, Nike and a few other american friends that we seem to be making could well be worth a decent sized fee in 'Marketing opportunities' and us becoming the EPL side of choice for the majority of Americans.

I also believe Americans love the rags to riches stuff, which would be our story if he came here and improved us to the point we won something,

So is he worth 5-8m just as a player alone? Maybe because his assist rate was phenomenal last time round, but, he would be well worth it in ways that our club maybe wouldn't know how to take advantage of. I'd go for it at around £5m if we had the dough. His game isn't all about pace so I could see him playing here for 3-4 years as with Pienaar.

I love positive posts like this!!

But it's Everton. Dreams like that rarely happen.

Can't even be bothered to do a percentage for it!!

Not even arsed.

my heart was fluttering too much just thinking about it, so I decided to word it in order to avoid using regulation pills.

As a rule No we shouldn't be signing 30 yr olds with no resale value however.... There are exceptions...

Pienaar being 1 Landon the other...

It's all about the cost obviously but Landon would not cost us much when u take everything into consideration ie.. Nike, merchandise, American intrest in efc + the main advantage he's a top player who improve us massively and can play 2 or 3 positions.

Without massive investment Landon pienaar Naismith maybe 1 or 2 loan/free deals.... CL would be a possibility!

I usually say American players can play longer into their careers than others because the way they are developed much later than most European players (because of college soccer). However, Donovan is not one of those. I really feel like he will hit the wall in 2-3 seasons from now and really fall off.

They're both 30.

But they've played here in two seperate spells, they know the club, the know the regime, they know Goodison, they know the English weather...there would be no bedding in period for either.

Not to mention they both make us play boss football.

I'd rather spend the next few seasons going to Goodison to watch some enjoyable & exciting footy, rather than playing it careful waiting for our U-18 inside right bought for a nominal fee from Olympiakos B to make his debut in a side still captained by Phil Neville.

Make it happen Everton.

Nike looking to get a marketable asset into the worlds most viewed arena = 50%
Gatorade looking to get noticed in an emerging market = 40%
Landon loving it at Everton = 5%
Our Weather = 5%

Bill Kenwright handling negocios = -82.48%

Simples.

Far too logical.

I do percentages.
