We have a great left-back and no real left-mid. We have no great right-back and no real right-mid. I would probably prefer us to get Landon over Pienaar just to even up both sides of the pitch.

My interpretation of what constitutes a "Real" right/left-mid is also up for debate.

Perhaps we should have a mass debate?

Anyway, my dream would be to get Landon and Pienaar. This won't happen though.

It's also no coincidence that our revival has started when Donovan has come into the side two seasons in a row. (As pointed out by LCAB a while ago) Sure Pienaar is more involved with our play, because he plays on the left, with Baines, who is pretty much our only strategy normally.

Donovan gets shafted out with either Hibbert or Neville and barely sees the ball, which makes his creation statistics all the more impressive.

Does Pienaar have a bigger effect on how pretty our football is ? Yup
Does Pienaar win us more games than Donovan ? Debatable.

Not to mention the psychological effect of Donovan on the team. Donovan has a never-say-die "winner" mentality, moreso than Pienaar. From purely a winning the game standpoint, Donovan has had much more success than Pienaar has had throughout his career - from success with the national team to club success, winning championships, etc. Donovan brings that winning attitude with him wherever he goes. You cannot underestimate that.
 

Can we not just sign both of them ? Please Bill ?

Is there any other team in the prem that would not be able to find the cash to sign 2 players the quality of pienaar and Donovan knowing how much of a difference it would make to there team AND it would be costing them under or around 10M ??

It really should be a for gone conclusion knowing what we know about these two players worth to the team that the cash should just be there and the transfers just a formality...

Exactly. Most clubs would be embarrassed to bring in such "cheap" signings. Their fans would freak out that this was all that they were spending.

LCAB and THT have always said December. I'm still confused as to whether or not he's actually free at that point. His contract that expires at the end of 2013 would say no, but there have been many references to free, so maybe he has a clause or something like that.

he'll basically be a free yes, i expect the loan will command a loan fee but as he'll be out of contract when he's on loan for us he won't command a transfer fee. this is why i am very glad we aren't selling baines just to raise money to buy donovan a few months earlier. lcab said before he'll be with us from november because that's when the MLS finishes, but obviously can't play for us till jan transfer window opens

There is no clause, i don't know where people are getting the idea he would be free in December from. LCAB has said all along we or somebody else would be paying for his transfer.
