Sir Landon Of Donovan

"If there is a chance, I make sure that I try (to tempt him to Everton) every time I speak to him. That’s the first thing I say to him. Toward the end of his spell back in January I even tried to kidnap him for a while and keep him in England! I’m telling the truth here when I say the last two times he’s been over he’s totally transformed our season. He’s the ultimate professional, he’s got great quality and the Everton fans love him. He’s a hero at Goodison Park, and he’s played less than 20 games for us. I’ve played with some world-class right-sided players in my time, and he’s up there with them.†- Sir Philip of Neville, 2012.

THT just retweeted Landon's 'once a toffee always a toffee' from December, don't know if that is him alluding to something or not, probably not but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I wouldn't be so sure. Donovan played almost exactly half the time Pienaar did for us this season, and created half as many chances and provided half as many assists.

In other words, he provided just as much as Pienaar did.

I'm 100% sure Pienaar is more vital to us playing good football than Donovan, regardless of assists.

He makes us tick and links well with everyone.

I agree, Pienaar is constantly involved. Donovan is great too, but Pienaar is more of a vital component of the team for me.

You win games by putting the ball in the net. He actually had much less time on the ball than Pienaar but created just as many goals.

It's also no coincidence that our revival has started when Donovan has come into the side two seasons in a row. (As pointed out by LCAB a while ago) Sure Pienaar is more involved with our play, because he plays on the left, with Baines, who is pretty much our only strategy normally.

Donovan gets shafted out with either Hibbert or Neville and barely sees the ball, which makes his creation statistics all the more impressive.

Does Pienaar have a bigger effect on how pretty our football is ? Yup
Does Pienaar win us more games than Donovan ? Debatable.

This. Spot on mate.

December being the key word in ThT tweet tho...saying that could be quite a boost if we get off to a good start and then have the added lift of Donovan coming in for a January boost!

Would love to get in the summer tho.. Iv said since last season if we could bring Donovan and pienaar in during the summer and add a couple of squad/loan players without loosin anyone we really could have a crack at 4th.
