Sir Landon Of Donovan

This factor of L.D having a six week rest is the best news I've heard in a long long time with regards to Landon's move to Everton. If you put it into perspective, his over whelming professional hunger for the game itself coupled with the knowledge that he knows of the near Heroic status he has garnered on Merseyside and the ground swell of expectation - he is going to be like Speedy Gonzalez on crack when, he slips on his footie boots for the first time and kicks a football on his first day at Finch Farm !

Six weeks of lazing about walking his dogs and hanging out on Venice Beach, then kicking back with a few cold ones whilst watching Fox Soccer Channel as Everton grind out a win against Manchester City at Stupid O'clock local time. Yes, he's gonna be bored after two weeks - but once he starts getting withdrawals and starts shaking like a crack head in Kirkdale..Landon is going to be running Forrest Gump style to the East coast and throwing himself Michael Phelps styleee into the Atlantic to get there!

This was a great post..

In my opinion...

...we've seen him play his last match for an MLS club. He's done all he needs to do with MLS and this is the best chance for him to play at a level he's wanted to play at for a very long time.

I think it would be an absolute letdown for him professionally if he had to return to MLS.

I expect a permanent deal will be negotiated with MLS for Landon so that he can be here in time to play in January and I would honestly be surprised if it went any other way.

+1! :)

Have to say we seem to be building LD up a bit too much, think we need to get our feet back on the ground.

He's not Messi, but we are better with him. I don't think there's many that would disagree with that. Especially considering we're on borrowed time with Pienaar. We really need a pacy winger who can run at people, now more than ever. It also frees us up to move Seamus back to RB and pair him with LD, which would be deadly.

Would rather have LD on the left with Baines. (in the event Pienaar leaves) and keep Coleman in front of Captain phil.

That would appeal to me but will Moyes do it. Bet he will drop Coleman, play LD on the right and use Bily in place of Pienaar.

nah, Coleman shows his worth week in and week out. In Moyes we trust

Not to mention LD prefers playing on the left.. Has a decent left footed service as well.

I think the anticipation of the impending arrival of L.D is cause for much excitement on here is broken down into two parts. Firstly, I cannot recall a player in the modern era ( Premiership years ) who has expressed such a desire to pull out all the stops publicly, if need be, to join our club. With maybe the exception of maybe, David Nugent. But more often than not, you get a 'vibe' when a player is plying his trade on a purely mercenary angle. Just looking down the M62 at Eastlands exemplifies that! Your don't appear to get that with Landon.

So, it's not for the money. He's not expressed himself as a 'childhood blue' whose dream it's always been to pull on the Royal blue - until the next club he joins with the same spiel ( I'm looking at you Robbie Keane !!).

We've seen what he can do and there's no hidden agenda, no ranting about wanting to win Premier titles or Champions League medals the minute he arrives in England. He knows Everton's status right now and what we can achieve in the short term. He's a realist and he just wants to play! That's why I want to see him in the number 9 shirt - cos a commodity like his in this day and age is a very rare and valuable one .

Inside LD's head:

MLS season ended last night.

Couple of days to clean out the locker and wrap things up.

Long vacation - somewhere with a beach, scantily clad ladies and the toughest decision all day is Rum Punch or Beer.

Fly back to LA - get feet wet again, starts up some leisurely training out of habit.

4 weeks gone, thinking how nice it will be to come back to Goodison Park and hear the GSE chant "USA, USA". Training picks up pace.

In the interim, Moyes has shaken up the formation and Everton win a match here and there. Everton find themselves lurking for European qualification - not knocking on the door yet but close enough that a run of good form gets them squarely in the mix.

So, do I sit about and rest up waiting for another MLS season that although new, has already been done. Thinking to myself, do I really want to stick around and answer questions about Ronaldinho or Kaka or some other European star coming to LA, or do I want to go back to Everton, play in a world class league, hang out with my Everton mates again and do something special like help turn a tepid start to the season into a spot in Europe. Sure was fun last go around.

If you're LD, what do you do?

Me - call Everton and tell them I need a first class flight from LA to Liverpool and I'll be needing that #9 kit that's been waiting for me.

No brainer.
