Should we prepare for life after...

You're right. But when one of them is a fan who came through the ranks it leaves a very bad taste. It completely ruins my faith in football tbh. If we're gonna get let down by one of our own then what chance have we got.

..perhaps that's a bit romantic, Tim. I understand entirely where you're coming from about playing for a club you support but it's also a business and place of work for these fellas. Like everybody in a workplace, there might be people they don't like, there might be a feeling of injustice at salary levels, there might be dissatisfaction with the boss, there might even be problems in their private lives.

These are wealthy young men who are globally in demand. They've also got agents talking with other clubs after their percentage and teammates down their ear on international duty. Unfortunately loyalty is less of a factor in the modern game.

Seems the overwhelming opinion is we are not arsed either way, think this tells you everything about the two. No doubt they are both good players but both have glaring weaknesses that have not brought us any success with them in the team so why should we be worried about losing them? Think if we get anywhere near £100m will be good business.

The drip drip drip of the media stories, articles, or whatever you want to call it has worn me down.
Rom? 2 years left on his deal, so I thought just keep him one more year, make a stand, and sell him for a decent fee next summer. At this point I had no thoughts of Ross leaving. Then the drip drip drip started. Rom is going I thought. So I resigned myself to him going. Get the biggest fee possible then I thought. Reinvest it in the squad and then spend some more.
If he doesn't want to stay (which he doesn't) there's no point keeping him I thought.
Ross? Then the stories about Ross start. I don't know why but I feel a bit more gutted about the potential for him leaving. Probably because he's one of us and the hopes were so high about him. He's a very talented player. Not consistent, but very talented in my opinion. It seems as though the timing of the change of manager in relation to Ross's contract hasn't helped. It has been allowed to drift into touching distance of the last 12 months of his deal. Perhaps the board could have offered him a new deal after Martinez left and before Koeman got here (Gibson's deal refers). I don't know. Either way, its got to this stage which is disappointing.
If they both go its a body blow. Its not something, with good management and the right purchases, we couldn't overcome. But it will be a slap in the face and a step backwards to go forwards and that all takes time to find the right blend. Ideally we'd want to build around these two players from the basis we already have.
I really want both to stay, but the drip drip drip effect has me prepared for the worst and it won't come as a surprise to any of us if/when it happens.
And if they do both leave in the same summer, its not good reading for the 'new' regime. Much work up ahead to keep us competitive and to make that next step.
Its building up to a very busy summer of ins and outs, and what the squad will look like on 31st August is anyone's guess!

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a player no one is arsed about leaving.

Maybe Dunc in my lifetime.

It's good again @AndyC - just not sure it's worth the effort of writing it! As well written as it is.

I've been seriously doubting if the two players in question are actually good enough to go the teams they think they're good enough for. And I'm really not sure you know.

Maybe they should prove they're good enough for Everton before deciding where they think they should be.

The balls in our court with both though. If they go, they go. I'm losing any ounce of being arsed.

We've won nothing with either of them. My head is more interested in those coming in who might actually like Everton. For a bit at least.

Most of this is aimed at Lukaku I should point out.

This
Another point that was made on the Sky sports Sunday supplement was the wages Spurs pay.
Ali is on 45k Alderwield on 50 k so if Barkley goes there and gets 100k then all the players will rightfully look for parity.
With a new stadium to finance Spurs have to careful with finances so Barkley might not get his move.
Best we can hope for is 2/3 clubs in for Barkley and it pushes the price up.
I hope he stays.
If the club stick to their guns no one will pay the money for Lukaku.

I'd rather both stayed but it's not the end of the world if they leave. The main thing is we get a decent fee for both. Ross has had half a good season in 3 years, awesome potential but missing the basics at times. As much as it pains me to say it because he's one of us he is easily replaceable. Rom less so but he doesn't want to be here so get as close to 90-100m as possible and reshape that front 3 will quality to ability to play the high pressing game.
Rom will go to Chelsea or United and either become the greatest striker to play the game or be a total flop who buckles under the weight of expectation but at least he won't be in the papers constantly belittling our club.

The one thing I struggle with is when people talk about 80M for Rom and 40M for Ross, that leaves us plenty of money to go and get 5 or 6 top quality players.

Well if we are selling these boys for those amounts, how do we expect to pick up 6 players for the same as what we offloaded them for?

If that's the case, Steve Walsh has got to start earning his crust.

Are we ready for life after Lukaku and Barkley? As we speak, definitely not. Will we be ready by the time next season kicks off? I sincerely hope so. Whether or not they leave will directly effect the next transfer window. If one, or both, head out, what Happens in the next window, both in terms of money that's going to be available and positions that have to be filled is going to be huge. The teams' identity and direction for the next few seasons, will be directly linked to its outcome.

Agreed.

Look at some of the players we're rumoured to be interested in, and their possible fees:

Pickford: £17m - £25m, depending on which source you believe
VVD: £35m - £50m, depending on number of clubs interested
Koulibaly: £49m release clause rumoured
Keane: £25m at least
Sigurdsson: £30m?
Sandro Ramirez is a noticeable exception, with a low release clause (can't remember if i saw it was £6m or £8m).

I don't even recall what figures have been mooted for Klaassen, Tielmans, Dendoncker, Dolberg et al. And if Rom goes we need to sign either an established goalscorer OR several players who can be relied upon to weigh in with 10 goals each over a season.

Should Ross depart, I would imagine Sigurdsson would make a decent replacement - but that's £30m gone in one go. A big spend this summer relies upon the money Moshiri has made available PRIOR to any sales because if Rom and Ross go we need big established players to replace them, and the money these two will raise is not going to be enough on its own.
